Hope there is a happy ending to this story, although its been too long.....
Yeah,
I hope they catch those bastards in that Chevy Avalanche. We will see how hard those detectives in that town are working. How many Avalanches can there be in that town?
Run registration and vins-Track em' all down and eliminate them as suspects!
Steal a bike, but don't screw with a mans life!
Life is cheap to so many scumbags out there....

Let's pray for Larry and the family to give them hope it has nothing to do with Larry and he is just being held somewhere or something innocent...

Well I know how we love to anonymously generalize and vilify here on the the interwebs hiding behind a screen. And if those are the conclusions you drew from my comments, well, you're just looking for drama because I didn't say that. I did say that it gave me pause when I have to enter the zip because in my experience, areas with higher crime required it. The Forbes article said as much - it's to stem credit card fraud. It's just one telltale of many, but not definitive as you would suggest I have said. I also said that it spreads outward from those higher crime areas and affects nice neighborhoods I'm sure. I never said "only" bad neighborhoods require a zip code. But if it happens in some areas, and not others, you apparently think that's random, or simply untrue. I must be lying I guess.

But I'm not. You can draw from your experience just as I have drawn from mine. And in my very considerable experience of travelling for business and pleasure, yes, all over the US, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, among other places around the globe, for decades, have given me enough life experience to add up the tell tales and survive to see the dawn of the next day. You can dismiss and mock the tools I use for survival. Frankly I don't give a ****. I mentioned it as an aside to the area the unfortunate subject of this thread disappeared in and as usual, the hand wringers come out of the woodwork and focus on the minutia, instead of the topic.

And yeah....I live in a nice "whitey safe area" where I don't need to punch in a zip code. I'm proud of that.

Who gives a crap about a damn zip being required to buy gas or not.

A man is missing and probably a victim of foul play.

I started the " How to tell if you're in a safe area" part of the thread. I didn't intend it to become a pissing contest. If you're streetwise there are ways to tell how wary you should be. I stand by my washer fluid theory.
The ZIP code entry method is not foolproof. Chains like Kwik Trip never require zip code. BP and Shell frequently require it so it's too variable.

Are you effen kidding me Ron?? The "zip code entry method is not foolproof" (not that I said it was), and the quality of washer fluid is the definitive measure as to whether or not you're in a bad neighborhood or not? So a fairly measurable occurrence as it relates to credit card fraud is negated, while a bellwether based on the work ethic of the individual at that particular gas station is the common sense approach to judging whether or not you're in a bad neighborhood? Sorry man.....you and I agree on much....but not this. Your streetwise methods leave me wanting. And the only reason you didn't get piled on like I did is that apparently people don't get as offended by the appraisal of their windshield washing fluid as they do their zip code inputs. For what it's worth, I've been to Beverly Hills and their windshield washer fluid was ****.

Hey I'm with you. I make a side comment and the purses start to swinging. As usual the thread gets derailed by folks that just have to prove a point - even if it's beside the point. It's not some scientific process that is 100% conclusive. It's just an observation that has been fairly consistent in my experience. If your experiences are different - hoo-f*ckin - ray! I'm done defending myself on what amounts to just one component of a much bigger picture that got dissected by a bunch of second guessing know it alls. Done.

I'm doing my part by spreading the word. Not only on FB but with locals to that general area. That's my contribution from here on.

Ive been involved with lots of missings in my 20 yrs as a cop. It amazes me how many were found in the building they were reported missing from or fairly close by. Unfortunately not all were found safe......Good luck and hope for a safe return.

Really? You damn guys are arguing like teenage girls in a cheerleader locker room, while we're trying to pull resources and do everything we can to raise awareness and share information that may lead us to a dear friend whose been missing for several days. If any of you in this dumbass argument over zip codes and credit card authorizations were friends of Larry's, or ever met him and had the pleasure of being in his company, you'd know that he'd be embarrassed by your epic display of immaturity.

"I'm right", "No, I'm right", "You're not right, I'm right". Really? Grow the eff up, and stop being so damned self-absorbed about being the argument winner. You should be ashamed of yourselves, with all of your egotistic chest-pounding. Go over to one of the more mature threads, like one of the arguments over which oil is best, or how to wave.

I'm out. Jackasses.
