It's my favorite jacket. I have a half dozen jackets. I wear my FXRG in the winter, my Kathmandu in the rain and the Schott for everything else. It offers better protection than the mesh and if I keep the jacket only zipped up 1/4 of the way plus the sleeves unzipped I get fairly decent ventilation while traveling. It was 92* and humid today and it was bearable when I was moving. There isn't much that will keep you cool once the temps get over 90* anyway. Not even mesh. The same goes for stop-and-go traffic. When you sit in rush hour traffic for an hour+ you just have to tough it out.

For adequate protection you have to wear body armor for chest, ribs, and back. The jacket itself (either leather or textile) will protect against abrasions - and some jackets offer pockets for armor at elbows, shoulders, and lower back. But, for decent protection you have to wear armor underneath the jacket. After my last accident in 2009, I wear Forcefield brand - made by the British - who know something about armor. Its the same brand HD uses for their elbow and shoulder inserts, but you have to find a shop that sells the full back, chest and rib areas.

Got a leather touring jacket with removable armor/liner. Has vents on the front and back and its really not that bad here in OK where temps sometimes get in the 100+.
