....anybody ever had this happen? Coming home from Northern Michigan yesterday (rode a motorcycle across the Mackinac Bridge for the first time in my life) - I was about 60 miles from home (down around Flint) and my 2008 96 C.I. just stopped running for a second, then came right back. The speedometer went to zero, then SLOWLY drifted back to 75 (or wherever I was running). My first suspicion was the battery cables, but they were both tight. Any other ideas? It did not happen again for the balance of my trip.

I had the exact same thing happen last summer and it was the battery. I pulled over to check the cables and they were tight. I tried to restart it and nothing. Had it towed to the dealer and it was the battery.

Lots of electrical possibilities. For instance it sounds similar to my ignition switch failing.

Did you also check the battery ground cable?

My sisters bike did this. I cleaned all of the contact points for the battery terminals and the ground wire and it solved it on her bike.

Find some of these and use between connections, particularly the frame ground. Old trick from the shovelhead days.
