hi,
I am a newbie, 44 yr old mom of two...husband and I are buying a friends older bike, not sure what it is lol
We have never owned a motorcycle before, my husband has been riding family memebers etc. for years. When I tell people we are buying a bike, every one of them is appauled and becomes experts on motorcycle death statistics. annoying. I love it and am excited...my question...does everyone who rides a motorcycle at some point get in an accident, or is there a chance of riding for years and not a scratch!?
not big on stats, more you ride, the more likley you will crash.
do not let the fear of riding control the way you ride.
there may be some people out there who has not crashed?
I've been riding since I was a kid, mini bike, dirt bikes, street bikes...yeah I've crashed a few times. Hit a deer while riding to work on my Road King 10 years ago. Fixed it and sold it 2 years later bought a 2005 Ultra in 08 and have put 60,000 miles on it?
Accidents can happen to anyone, then hopefully maybe not. But don't think it won't happen to you because it can. I hit a deer about 5 months ago running about 60. I didn't go down but my leg hurt like a b**** for a couple of months. Did about $3200 in damages to the bike. I know now that I'm not invincible. The way I look at it is that they always say the good Lord has your time set so it doesn't matter if your on a bike or walking in the house. But I'm going to wear my helmet anyway.
Oh yea, welcome to the forum from the Western edge of Eastern Texas.

Welcome from Maryland. If you are worried about crashing it's best to stay in a cage. Chances are it will never happen, but you can crash in any type of motorized vehicle. Respect the bike and don't take unnecessary risks and you'll be fine.
I sold the second bike I had in '81 because all I could think about was crashing. My cousin getting killed on a bike in the mid 60s didn't stop me from getting one but it did make my mom get extra insurance on me.
I stayed away from them until late 2012 and was rear ended at a stoplight in June '15.
