Default Got Both....Dyna with evo or 2003 sportster for comuter

I'm trying to decide which is the best for my 80 mile a day commute.
I'm thinking the sportster would be cheaper to maintain in the long run...

Thoughts?

I've put 64k on my bike in the last 4 years i'm trying to take some of the pressure of her.

When i posted this i'd had a ruff day and i worded it wrong..
I'm not talking changing oil and tires.

My real question is.

Between the two given you don't get a lemon.

Which one is likely to cost more or less in repairs.
Is one or the other more likely to have known issues.
Is one or the other truly more reliable.

Sportster would be cheaper to acquire, but I don't think it'll be substantially cheaper to maintain.

I was curious your mileage. Below 20 miles each way I'd say either. But you will thank yourself for getting the better comfort of the Dyna for that commute. My normal weekend cruise is 65 miles (frequently longer but the usual). With my Sporty that was a butt burner. With the Dyna, I can easily go 215 miles at the same level of comfort.

From the Sportster perspective, depending on your size, you may be able to get away with good shocks and a nice seat. I wouldn't go with a lowered bike as that lowering comes from cutting the range of the shocks! Keep in mind I bloody love Sportsters.

'03 Sportster is the last of the rigid mount XL's. It'll rattle 'yer teeth out.

Late model big twin Evo's tend to be rock solid dependable. (I know which way I'd go.)

are you riding highway or city miles, big difference in the bike you may want to get.that many miles i would go for a bigger bike, you still have to change fluids but the difference is in enjoyment of your travels.

I don't know how tall you are or how much you weigh.

For some people, a Sporty is great all day. Others will feel too cramped after a few minutes (like me....after about 10 or 15 minutes on my wifes Sporty...I'm ready to get off and stretch out).

I'm at the point where my lower back is so shot, nothing but a Softail will work good for me now...hence why I have my springer softail now. I notice the bike in your sig pic...a springer. Will be tough giving up the lazy boy recliner chair ride go move to a Dyna where you sit on top and catch the wind more.

EVO. Bigger bike, better ride, more comfort.

The Dyna has a bigger tank... you'll be filling that peanut tank up at a greater frequency.

If I had to choose, Id chose the Dyna, but I like Sportsters also. The Dyna would be best all around commuter IMO, highway especially. Also payload, if you carry anything in bags or packs.

How would the maintanance costs be different? They really wouldn't.
Since you already have a bike with 64,000 miles, you might as well keep running it. No reason not to.
If I were looking for an EVO powered Dyna, I'd be sure to get a fuelie.
