Safety course first. Then go find a nice used small metric and drive it for a year to get all the 'dropsies' out of your system. THEN go find your Harley. I would get a nice garage queen Dyna, but that's just me, see my sig pic.

And welcome to this madhouse...

If you live in Toronto I would buy a tank, not a motorcycle.

Rent a bunch of bikes and decide which one feels the best. I just went through this with my wife last year, and she ended up on a 1200 Sportster. This is her first bike, and she is loving it.

Like others have mentioned, take a safety course. I don't agree with buying a metric, then "graduating" to a Harley. Harleys aren't that much of an exclusive club. Jmo, but I think most people who buy their first bike, buy too small & end up spending more money than if they just stepped up to the right bike to begin with.

Probably doesn't matter. Motorcycles are like wives. The 2nd one will be better than the first, lol.

honestly if you actually live in Toronto you need to buy something that's liquid cooled that GTA traffic is murder my fatboy almost over heated just trying to get through Toronto on the highway, so I'd tell you to look at the street 500 street 750 or the v-Rod, or just go with a metric, having owned both a sportbike and a Harley and having lived in a much smaller city than Toronto is I would never own a Harley and live in a city but that's me

USED bike in the softail or dyna family. Spend a few $$$ on a used crash bar from eBay, the crash bar and buying used will save you $$$ for your first few "lessons". Take the safety course!!! I got a smoking hot deal on a garage queen 2003 Fatboy with only 16k miles on it, $50 on a HD crash bar with minimal scratches and I have been riding more than a year very happily. Now am ready to ADD a touring bike to my garage.
