I am always looking for ways to make riding more comfortable, so I am asking kindly, how/why does the 1 inch floor board extensions help? My leg muscles in the front pants area seam to cramp up and hurt like a charlie horse "in the middle of the night," when I get off work and on the ride home. I am only 5' 10 1/2'' so I've never considered myself as being tall enough to need a tall boy seat, so what do you Y'all think i should try next?
Muscle cramps are caused by poor blood circulation. That may not be solved by floorboard extensions.
I get butt hurt after 100 miles in the saddle. Just means circulation in my butt is pinched off by the saddle. I stop, walk, stand for 10 minutes and I recover.

the floor board extensions are the best thing i have bought for my trike. if i would have known about these before ,they would have been on every bike i've owned. my not take care of your problem but they allow you to relax your legs alittle more .
I get leg cramps when I ride from not drinking enough water/Gatorade. When I get home from a long ride, I eat some pickles, take some leg cramp pills and drink a lot of water.

You say your legs hurt after work - maybe your work requires you to walk a lot, like mine does?
I find it helps to stay hydrated, as Chikin said, especially in the hot weather when you're sweating a lot. If you wait to drink until you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.
I also have not-so-great circulation in my legs so I wear Thorlo's compression socks. They are designed mostly for diabetics but they help to keep the blood from pooling in your lower legs.
Doing these things has pretty much eliminated the leg cramps I used to get at night.
This is for everyone... Point your toes in towards the frame and it will stretch those muscles. Don't do it the whole ride but it's better for your legs than toes out.
I find that I change my foot position on the boards quite a bit. Highway pegs one of these days. With the police seat, and my boards 1" forward, I find pitting the ***** of my feet on the back edge of the board a nice change for a few min. Its like the position of mid controls.
You could also consider new bars and even a backrest to lean back on, and kick your feet up a bit.
I think you are squeezing your thighs to your tank. Probably due to the air pushing them outward. Try some of the soft covers on your engine guards. I think lower fairings really help on the touring bikes. Especially at highway speeds. Not joking....A thigh master would help strengthen those inner muscles that rarely get used unless you are riding.
Hydrate and get some potassium......Gatorade or anything like that.......move around on the bike......stretch......yes I stretch on the bike......lift leg up on the lowers and lean forward......twist.........gotta keep that body moving.......long trips make the muscles cramp up because of low blood flow....1" board extensions allow more movement.......hydrate!!
water and Powerade "it's cheaper" with a banana once a day for potassium.
I'm also going to move my floor boards out an inch, I ride with my heels hanging off of the back of the boards as well, and that will get my left heel off off the derby. Thank y'all for the input.
