Ordering a custom color on a new bike?
I'm renting a new Road King while my TriGlide is having some work done. I'm really starting to like it a lot, and am thinking there is enough room in my garage for it to share with the TriGlide. But, I'm not really in love with the 2017 colors. And I think the 2015 Magic Black would be awesome on it.
I don't want to get in that level of a discussion with a sales guy yet. So, I'll ask you all.
Does anyone know if it's possible to order a new bike in a custom prior year color? Has anyone done it, and if so, how'd it work out for you? Oh yeah...how much extra did it cost?
Thanks.

No, you won't be able to "custom" order a new bike with any other color than what is offered for that year.
You can probably order a new set of tins in previous year colors, and when the bike comes in, have them swapped out.
But that will be on the expensive side.
And as mentioned, take it and have the painter of your choice do his thing.

How does Magic Black compared to Vivid Black or Black Quartz? How much variance in black can there really be to be worth a a couple of thousand dollars?
To answer your original question, you can't get a one off from the factory.
I think the cheapest way to accomplish what you want is to simply bring the bike to a paint shop to be repainted.
A couple of weeks ago I messed around with the HD1 build your bike thing out of curiosity.
I was stunned by how much better a Laguna Orange Road King looked with the blacked out engine, forks, sissy bar and black cut down engine guard.
I did that because I wasn't too enthusiastic about the available Road King colors, but the blacked out look with the Laguna Orange sure got my attention.
