Since 2010 I've taken a 10 to 14 day trip starting the day after labor day. I do an average of 500 miles a day and avoid the interstate as much as possible. Longest day on my Dyna was 650 miles. Longest day on my SG is 975 (Winnemucca, NV to home in NW Washington). Planning a 48 state and DC ride next year starting the third week of August. Route I have currently planned is just under 9K miles in 17 days. BTW, I'm 70. Been trading emails with a guy in Tennessee that did it last year. He's 70 also and averaged over 500 miles a day.
What does the route look like?
Sounds like a fun ride.
One of my riding buddies and his GF went to the east coast and back this last summer.
Depends allot on who I am with....(wife does not ride).
As a group, anywhere from 150 to 600 miles in a day (depending on the group).
With the bike I have now, I put in a 750-800 mile day in this summer.
Could have kept going but my wife made reservations (so I wouldn't).
It depends allot on the roads I am riding, some stretches of interstate are just plane boring and with 70-80 MPH speed limit you can cover some ground.
The back roads are another story, enjoy the views and the curves

Even though I have ridden for over 40 years, I certainly haven't taken long out of state trips every year. The ones I have taken average around 300 to 350 per day and 90% of it is off the interstates. US and state highways are always my planned routes.
Comfortably, I can ride about 5-6 hours (not including breaks) in a day. So, on long easy interstates, maybe 400 miles. In slow, easy scenic or city driving, maybe 200 miles.
If I push, and the ride no longer is as enjoyable (after 5-6 hours), I can ride another 1-3 hours.
Never have no set plan, it may be 200, it everything going good, not doing any sight seeing I may go 800-1000
Don't like having a big agenda of things to do on a schedule
Instead of a "mileage" number, due to various roadways chosen, I think a more accurate number should be "hours of operation."
Even that, can vary with weather or other conditions.
Or urgency to acquire a destination.
I know for me, that the rate of making mental mistakes soars after 10 hours in the saddle. And after 16 hours, that rate is virtually straight up.
For this reason, I will likely never attempt an "iron butt."
Just not worth the risk to me. Besides, the iron butt was a motorcycle challenge, not a rider challenge. But now that motorcycles are so capable, and bullet proof, the challenge means little more than ruining a weekend.
If one of my destinations is Black Hills/Badlands, I go through Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska as quick as possible - about 500 + miles or so a day.
When I get to SD I spend a few days there and ride between 150 to 300 miles daily. Got to ride to see the sites. Then move on to Wyoming for a few days - same thing as many miles to get in all I went to see - on to Montana and so on...
On my way home again hit the bricks and point it home.
Now I got myself wanting to plan a trip for next year
As others said it all depends. My longest was 780 into Wall SD but that was due to cutting the prior day short due to more sightseeing than we planned and longer time in the shops we visited with our wives. On trips with 2 or more days to get to our from a destination my average or what I shoot for is around 500. But like in my example above it will vary depending on side trips, shopping (wife) or if we want to be at a certain destination that night. On multi day trips I usually have a goal in mind of how far to go each day but also find that keeping it flexible to allow for unexpected side trips or sightseeing makes the trip more enjoyable.
On single day rides on the weekend I probably average between 250-300
I avoid the superslab except when leaving or returning to the Bay Area. I also poke along and enjoy stopping on rides when I see something interesting. Average is about 400-450 a day. Tanks on my 84 only get me about 125 miles so gas stops add in time as well. I am sure that riding new iron it would be easy to increase that number, but with 32 year-old iron I am tired after 8-10 hours on the road.
It really depends upon where I need to get to and how long I have to get there. During a typical 30+ day road trip (I do one almost every year), I'll go anywhere from 150 miles to 800+ miles in a given day, getting from one destination to another.
