When I head down to our home in Arizona I'll do 2,800 km in 2 1/2 days. It's a matter of getting from point A to B in a short period of time. Normally 400 to 500 miles is a good day for me.

I don't care for anything under 700 miles in a day on tour. Maybe that's how I did over 42K last year and am over 41K so far. This year was shortened by a sprained knee early in the year and my wife's stroke a month ago.

I have done over 1,100 miles in just under 24 hours and many 900 miles rides each year. For me it is a test on how age is affecting me. I'm only 76 and have not slowed down yet.

Alone I'll plan on 1000 mile days to get to where I want to ride. If I am riding with someone daily totals drop to 700-800, Meals tend to be sit-down and more social. When 2 up my wife has decided that she only rides for 4 hours. For an example, that means a trip to the PCH starts with me taking a couple of days to ride to Vegas to pick her up and head to LA. Ride north leisurely until it's time to drop her at an airport and then turn and head for home. Bike doesn't matter, road king, dyna or sporty all ride equal for me.

All depends on the trip and how much time there is. The wife and I have done the trip around Lake Michigan where we ran 400 miles the first day so we could putt around and explore the rest of the week and spend a couple days going up to Superior. We've also done 1,000+ miles over a Labor Day weekend.

If I can do much more than 300 miles a day, I'm on the wrong roads. No four lanes, no major cities, strictly 2-lane pleasure cruising. Did a 3000 mile trip of 2 provinces and 5 NW states last year and Missoula was the largest city seen. You can get to the coast and down to the Redwoods without even seeing a major skyline.
I particularly like using Butler Maps to help "plan" our tours. We are almost always accompanied by another couple or two and the wife rides her own bike.

Wink Variables...

Lots of variables - weather, road type and just how bad I want to be somewhere. Generally speaking solo I can easily do 400 - 500 miles a day on my Dyna SG. With my bride behind me we routinely do 400 mile days and always feel like we could {if we had to}, go another couple of hours. We are 65/66 and make it a point to get off every 1.5 to 2 hours even if it is just for a short break to stretch, hit the bathroom, and/or fuel/food.

Having the Sundowner cruising seat, Memphis Shades Batwing fairing and Leather Lyke Bags/Top Case make the longer days enjoyable. While they're not big bags they easily hold enough for a 4 day trip. We choose our weather windows carefully {not foolproof but it helps}.

If I'm in so much of a hurry that I have to cover 600-1000 miles in a day, I don't have time for the trip. That's what airplanes are for-getting somewhere. When I ride the bike I'm GOING somewhere. There's a difference.
