I went down today...........
Man, I'm sorry to hear that. i can't believe the guy took off... WTF? You have insurance, right?
If there's anything I can do, let me know...
Depends on how much the sheetmetal set is. Unless it's a numbered set, I'd probably have someone paint it for you. Obviously HD doesn't paint tanks, they have someone do it so no matter how you look at it, someone's painting that set.
See what your insurance is paying for and how much they're allowing.... you'll just have to pay the difference if you want something different than what was on your bike.
If you do decide to buy a set from the dealer, let me know how much and I'll see if I can get it cheaper for you.

All you guys that are like meand think "It will never happen to me"--- I hate to tell you that you are wrong! I hated hearing it before and I laughed at the saying.."There are 2 kinds of bikers..those that have gone down and those that will". It is really true. I rode thinking I was so F***ing smart and alert and ready for anything to happen. I practice evasive maneuvers for fun regularly. I REALLY believed that I could handle any situation. I always watched ahead of me for some idiot to pull out and I would think "If that jerk pulls out, I am ready for him". I had absolute confidence. As it turns out, it doesn't happen when you think you are ready but when you least expect it. Sometimes you just can't avoid it.
I am really shook up this morning and don't feel (right now) like I even want to ride again. I'm sure it will pass, but it is hard to see everything you believed change so suddenly. I see now that I was cocky and over confident. I guess God felt I needed a lesson. Perhaps that lesson will save my life some day. I really don't want to be a nervous rider. I'm afraid it won't be as much fun.
Untilrecently....
Had a close call and it really did a number on my mind. For a while it felt like every oncoming car turning left was going to pull in front of me,that every car behind me was going to rear end me at a stop light, that I'd drop my bike being carelessetc, etc.
Took me a few hundred miles to get close to gettingmy head screwed on tight again and enjoy the road, yet even now I'm not the same,to be the same again I'd have to regain my over-confidence and that's something that's better left behind.

If it did that and did not hit the rim, would that blow the tire? Nobody could figure out at the scene why the tire was blown so severely. Not the cops or other riders.....anybody have any guesses?
Tires are meant to support hundreds of pounds, not tons....
I'm not some crime expert but I've had a lot of bikes brought into the shop and in many cases, you could see imprints of grilles/bumpers on bikes which stopped just after it rolled "up" onto the rear tire.
Anyway, if I can help, let me know...

I am meeting the adjuster at the dealer tomorrow. I will see how everything works out and let you know if I need help. I really appreciate the offer...Thank you!!!
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Heal quickly.
I was out for a picture perfect ride. There was a detour due to a tractor trailer that turned over and it was a zoo...cars coming from every direction and nobody knew where they were going. I was behind a black SUV that went straight as I turned right to get on the highway on-ramp. The guy in the black SUV changed his mind and made a horseshoe left. He bumped me, I went down on the right side and his back wheel (I think) rolled over my bikes front tire (Not the wheel apparently), but just the tire and it split the tire.
I have a pretty bad case of road rash on my right arm, hand, knee, and some on my left ankle. Fortunately I got my leg clear so the bike didn't fall on it. My handle bar was bent to the tank, tank is damaged pretty badly and the emblem was torn off. My front and rear blinkers were broke off and the right brake peddle is bent. V&H pipes are also damaged. Forks and wheel seemOK but wewill see after an inspection.
I called Harley roadside assistance and they could not help (completely worthless). They called 45 towing companies and nobody would come out on a holiday. Finally an independentwas coming by and asked me if I needed help. He only charged me $125 totow me to my dealer (30 miles) and then I hitched a ride with him backclose to my home where my wife and son picked me up. I left the bike at the dealer with a note on it.
LEO's were fantastic. The chief rides and it was his day off but he was passing and helped me move the bike. He had his HD vest on. Ambulance treated me and a fire truck was passing and stopped to clean up the gas that I was laying in. Many bikers stopped to help. The police came by three times to see if I was OK while I was waiting for a tow. As I waited there were two more accidents on the ramp. One was a head on collision between two cars. The other one was a rear ending ofanother car. I was a wicked, crazy intersection with mass confusion.
Now get this. While people were helping me up, the guy that hit me took off!! Nobody got his licensenumber.
I am OK, thank God. Just a little shook up and bruised.
1. Frank, I am equally happy you're still able to talk about your experience rather than your name in the Memorial Section of this Site.
btw, I'm Kev as for names go ... new to this site and haven't really bonded with anyone as yet but I'm a patient guy and know B4 friendship R formed, people gotta see where you're coming from.
2. When I first came on here, I thought long & hard about how best to introduce myself to this Family and I decided the best way was 2 B myself who is always looking out 4 the next guy. Believe it or not doesn't matter 2 me but I'm all about being part of the solution in our society rather than the problem. So one of my first Post was about safety on the road. I probably wouldn't have thought too much about it if it were not for the area I currently live in which is an accident waiting to happen everytime you mount up on these crazy freakin streets & highways around here.
3. I do not wish to second guess you but I just wanted to get a better picture of this event 2C how it could have been avoided. So you're entering the Exit from the highway and some guy who doesn't know you're behind him we'll assume, panics bcuz he just missed his exit. as I see it, one of two things could have happened..
(a) You were behind him far enough so that had he made an unnatural U-Turn to get off the highway thinking he had enough space & distance to actually navigate this manuver, he would have seen you at
