iam NOT going to pay 400 dollars for 2 12 volt fans when i can go into any computer place and get them for 5 bucks each
Agree. Your paying for the mount, housing, electrical bits, chrome, paint and getting scalped on the fans.$50.00 in materials and 300% markup. Gee, just like HD!
Yes they work. They work great. Lowered temps on my Fatboy up to 50 degrees in stop and go traffic and about 20 or so degrees in cruise mode. Stop and go traffic temps is where they really shine.
according to my mechanic the reason my 103 motor in my 2015 freewheeler was totally destroyed by heat was because the love jugs which blew air on the heat sensor fooled the sensor into believing it was cooler than it realy was. Also the love jugs blow air on only one side of the motor which does not allow even heat distribution. IMO love jugs were the main reason my motor was heat destroyed

I just posed this statement to several older HD mechanics in my loop. They said the fans probably had ZERO to do with that. They said tight crankshaft bearings were the likely cause, they have seen it multiple times on trikes. Heat sensor is between heads/cylinders. Heavy vehicle/lugging will affect the phenomena in conjunction with crank issue.
I just couldn't see in my mind how the statement your guy made held water......

he is the head mechanic for one of the Harley dealers near me. He has been the head mechanic for over 20 years and knows what he is doing. if you think about it the fan blows air on this sensor causing the sensor to not enable the heat management to come on and shut down the rear cylinder. If you want to try this yourself take a small fan, run your bike till your heat management comes on and the rear cylinder shuts off, then point the fan directly on the sensor, the rear cylinder will come on again in a very short time (less than a minute) as your motor overheats and causes damage.
