I was riding last month in Ft Lauderdale, FL on a 10 lane highway and seen the rain coming. I tried to make it to an overpass to wait it out, thunderstorm in florida are usually very sort, didn't make it in time. It was raining so hard I had all I could to to get pulled off the road. They say don't put rain-ex on the windshields, but the one that came on the harley is to tall to see over and with the rain I couldn't see through it. It really scared the crap out of be with cars flying by on both sides of me and not being able to see anything. Any suggestions?
I remember one trip years ago on the interstate, raining like hell, starting to get dark, tinted winshield, dark glasses, racing against the clock, passing semis, getting sprayed by giant tires as I go by, hitting puddles (small lakes), tryin to get to town....any town, before it gets dark! I couldnt see worth a crap!
Later I cut the windshield down about six inches, and always have clear night glasses on me within easy reach. Problem solved, I can see fine even at night in the rain. I am still out of the wind, but heavier bugs now smack me right on the forehead...same spot every dam time.
Cut your windshield until you are looking about 1 1/2" higher than it is. Still plenty of protection, but you don't have to look through it and the rain both.
There are instructions in the DIY section of this forum.
rain x is wonderful. H-D sells their own version (likely same product). Rain X was developed for airplanes that have no wipers and their windscreens are lexan or earlier plexiglas. a short windshield with rain x will dump the water in your lap but much better than your face. use it on your glasses too. definitely safer. it's available in my saddlebag all the time.
I go with the rainx or the pledge they both make it easier to get those bugs off as for windshield to tall. Need it short so your looking over the top all the time. Better view and now and then a large bug gets through but hey a man has gotta eat!! Cut down the windshield and get some rainx
JUST USED RAINX ON MY WINDSHIELD YESTERDAY....CRACKED IT ALL TO PIECES IN 5 MINUTES...CONTACTED MANUFACTURER...TOLD ME TO READ INSTRUCTION ON BOTTLE OF RAINX...PLAINLY STATES NOT TO USE ON ANY PLASTIC OR PAINT...IF ALL ELSE FAILS READ INSTRUCTIONS...LEARNED HARDWAY!!!!

MC windshield and airplane windhsield aren't a good comparison. Aircraft windhields are sloped and more aerodynamic and that helps get the rain off, some have a prop in front of them that will blow the rain off when on the ground and the slipsteam at altitude will keep the windshield clear.

I used on it on a faceshield once. I sure was glad the faceshield was old and had some scratches because I had to throw it away.
Oh, I throw in another vote for shorter windshield. I put the H-D one on my '07 FLHTC when I bought it and wish I had done it on the '04 FLHTC when I bought it in 2004. Makes a world of difference in rain and just normal every day riding.
