Default Service cost?

As I am pondering obtaining my FIRST HD, just wondering what are the service costs (oil Changes etc.) ? Is there a prepaid service plan that you can buy?

Engine/primary/trans fluid drain and replace + new oil filter: $100, more or less.

Yes.

If you take it to the dealer, be sure to take some K-Y because they don't supply that. It's simple to do yourself and save some money. Buy the service manual and it tell you exactly what all needs to be done.

That's stuff you need to ask and talk to at the dealership. Some offer a prepaid option and some have the first one on them.

Your service costs depend on your dealer labor rate and the service you are getting done. The 1k and 10k service are big ones and will run into the hundreds of dollars (at least it will here in the NYC metro area). As others have said, get a service manual for your bike. It will become your bike's best friend. The more you do on your bike, the more confident you will become. Good luck and welcome to the family.

Figure about $400-$500 every 10,000 miles from a dealership.

Almost as bad as Triumph...(They're $800-$1150 depending on if you need valve shims changed...)

Go to your local HD dealership and find out. Costs vary widely dealer to dealer. Around here, scheduled maintenance at the local HD dealerships is around $300 to $400 depending on which services are due. I would suspect many dealers offer some type of maintenance pre paid plans- they are a profit center for the dealerships and they'd love to sell you one. POSSIBLY worth it if you insist on using HD for your maintenance needs.

Independent service shops will likely be a bit cheaper than the above, if you have access to something like that.

If you know which end of the screwdriver you're supposed to pound on you can also consider doing your own service. The factory service manual costs about $50 give or take, and will pay for itself the first time it keeps you out of the dealer's service bay.
This is what I do. My bike has only been back to the dealership for recalls.

$300-$500 depending on regular or synthetic fluids - I would negotiate having them do the first one (1k) as part of the sale & then as others said, get the manual and do it yourself... here is the typical schedule - http://www.adventureharley.com/touri...nance-schedule

Buy a service manual and do it yourself. I think that's parts of owning one. Yes you can do it!!
