I have a 1997 Heritage Softail with the stock 80" Evo. When I ride with my brother they sometimes leave me behind when accelerating at higher speeds. What can I do to get some more umph while on a budget of about a grand?

Post in the Evo section. It is very easy to dramatically increase horsepower and torque in an Evo.

What is your brother riding? If he is riding any "modern"(non-Harley) motorcycle, save your money and reflect on the fact that you have a 20 yr old bike that's done pretty darn good over the years.

Also, every time he pulls that chit, tell him that your Mom called, and said that she always liked you best.

Yep, post in evo section. Those guys know lots about .asking power. Stage 2 can be done for around 1k, that bumps up an evo significantly.

FWIW I regularly watch late model street glides disappear in my mirrors both on the straights and curves. I don't have a radical crazy expensive build or huge displacement. Just an eighty inch Evo setup nicely that makes power where I need it.

It starts with selecting the right cam for your realistic needs then proceeds to things that will enhance what that cam does. Too often a guy puts in a high horsepower radical cam only to find it sucks in the real world because that cam is useless in the low to mid rpm's and makes all of its power near redline.

For me, the Andrews EV13 with a small handful of support parts was the right choice. Another popular choice is the Andrews EV27. There are others of course.

Can't go wrong with an andrews, they have been doing this for a while. Sounds like your looking for top end, so the 27 would be a good choice. Like Prot said support parts too. A stock air box and pipes will stifle a cam. He is also correct that a mild build evo will walk away from many Twinkies, I know.

Evo motors are easy to make power with while not breaking the bank.

If this guy gives you sh*t about him being faster than you, just remind him at each and every time you guys are at a stop, that your bike still sounds like a real harley should!
He'll know what you mean ;-)
