Has anyone ever used this WD40 product? I saw it yesterday and I am trying to choose what grease to use for the steering head. Trying to avoid any grease melting down and getting all over the place in the summer.
I've used Lucas red grease for a long time; but I'd try the WD stuff just because I like to experiment. I like it even better when other people experiment:-).
When I worked in a frame and fork shop, we used the boattrailer grease like the guy above. Most damage we saw to the bearings was rust, and some greases break down with moisture. The marine grease protects.
I use Lucas red grease (or the generic equivalent from Tractor Supply). Yes. I have to wipe a drop of grease from the lower bearing one in a while, so what? If that's what you consider a "problem", you need to get out more.
Thanks
What about Green Grease for high temperatures?
Automotive grease that's rated for disc brakes has a high drop point. It will stay in place, and is about the thickest grease that you can buy in a cartridge.
I have a tub of boat trailer bearing grease that's salt water rated, and that stuff is way too stiff to pump. I wouldn't try to load it into a grease gun, and pump it.
I don't know anything about "Green Grease". I'd have to read the spec's on it.
