Does anyone have a recommendation for earbuds for use while riding? I have a Dyna Switchback with V&H Monster Duals and a Shark helmet which can be used with chinbar either up or down. I use a Sena 10S Bluetooth communicator. I use earbuds rather than the Sena speakers but I have found that music is severely distorted, particularly above about 30 mph, to the point that I just turn it off. I can make and receive phone calls and talk to other riders via the intercom but music is just not intelligible. I don't know if other riders have the same problem or if it is just a unique combination of earbuds and my particular motorcycle and helmet.
I have talked to Sena about this and they have recommended a couple of configuration changes (sidetone and Noise Reduction 'ON') but I haven't tried that yet. They did not have a recommendation for a specific brand or type of earbud.
I have tried at least 4 different brands of inexpensive earbuds, including some that are supposedly noise isolating, but none has solved the problem.
I am willing to spring for some more expensive buds but would like to see if anyone has a solid recommendation for any particular set before I do so.
The only ones that will be satisfactory are custom made units for your ear canals, otherwise you will get hot spots under your helmet and very limited wear time. Custom made ones you can wear all-day long. I have two pair from this company:
Have you tried the standard iPhone ones? I've always had decent luck with those.
I don't use a comm system but I play music...if you get the headphones with the microphone, you can use that button to skip tracks without having to take your phone out of your pocket while riding.
I use Shure SE315 noise isolating in-ear monitors. They block out the majority of external/wind noise, so the volume doesn't have to be cranked up. I can ride for many hours, and never have ear fatigue or ringing.
Remove the rubber cups from your earbuds, buy foam earplugs cut in half, poke holes thru center, stretch over earbud. Fit better, far less noise and no need to crank up the volume.
I have been looking for the old school walkman headphones to place into the ear hole in my helmet. Everything now is too thick and something like skullcandys though good when inserted not so good just dangling in the hole.
