The picture in the Revzilla review of the 2018 aluminum parts that replace the 2017 steel parts show the old and new Jiffy Stands and they look totally different.
looking at the 2018 parts fiche, it's really hard to tell. I don't find any mention/pic of any locking tab, but it may lock by some other means now? or maybe not at all. I would be disappointed if that were the case.

well, color me gobsmacked. all this time I've been riding a metric. who knew? (since this pic was taken, I've replaced the heavy breather with a black ventilator elite, and the chrome engine guard with a black one.)

Here's my take. It's gonna be a bit long winded, but .....

I am a Shovel guy, and dabble in Evo's. I have quite a few bikes, and my stable represents a worldwide love of all things motorcycle. I prefer American and Italian marques, but also have some Vintage Japanese representation.

I understand the Twin Cam mill, but could never get behind it. It had many similarities to the vintage Harley iron I love so much, but the overall look and technology improvements failed to convince me that my old stuff was obsolete. Basically, I was totally uninterested in getting a TC. It was just too similar, but lacked all the quirkiness and gorgeous "failings" of the 70's and 80's.

I do all my own maintenance, and also build bikes, so my affinity for simpler times is not without reason.

I commute, but have chosen a lightweight Moto Guzzi (2007)for the task, and have embraced the "modern" aspects wholeheartedly, from the electric start to the fuel injection system. I don't try to fool myself into thinking the vintage stuff is superior, it's simply not.... it's just cooler

Now Harley comes out with an entirely new bike. Monoshock, wetsump, counter-balancer, lighter weight, improved handling, and much more refined overall. The swingarm/monoshock setup is awesome, and I can't wait to work it into a custom build.

The relatively expensive pricetag keeps the marque exclusive to a degree, and I understand the logic behind it, not to mention the vast amount of work that went into bringing us this new technology from stem to stern. We are getting a whole new bevy of bikes with the Harley name.

In a nutshell, I am willing to give Harley a try past the Evo mill, skipping the Twin Cam era.

I am ready to embrace a brand new Harley after decades of neglect in my excitement and appreciation. I am happy that Harley bit the bullet and brought us something truly new.

Not hating at all.

Well I just got back from a demo ride of the Heritage and I can honestly say wow! Did it sound like my fatboy...no But it did a lot of things better. I will say one thing I don't like is that the primary on all the Softails is way too wide....I had trouble keeping my left leg off of it.

It rode like a dream...now I understand while touring guys meant when they said they ride a couch...Power was great. I would need to see the need to do a stage 1 unless you wanted to.

Just my take on it

When it comes to performance, the comments about the 2018's has been pretty positive. My problem is that none of the new models appeal to my eye in any way. Throw in the fact that some tank sizes have shrunk and cruise has been left off all but one new soft tail model, there's really nothing making me reach for my wallet.

Best/joe
Same here. Is the blacked out look really that much in demand? Seems like most HD guys have always liked their chrome.

I was truly shocked by what I saw on HD's site for the 2018 line up. There is literally nothing I would have any interest in buying this year. I'm not thrilled with any of the paint schemes, or the blackout look.

I get that they are trying to get some younger people in, but at the price entry for these bikes, its not going to be to successful, and making HD's look more "edgy" is only going to put off us older guys from trading in IMHO. Denim paint, and blacked out doesn't do a thing for me.

The blacked out look really is in. I'm on a Corvette forum and it's all over that, with most of the members opting for black wheels, blacking out their chrome...I think I'm one of the few left that bought chrome wheels on my '17 Vette and love chrome on my Harley.
