Dealer called. HD won't fix under warranty. The dealer said they are going to give me a break and replace the clutch basket with the Screaming Eagle brand part and only charge me 1/2 hour of labor. So about $250. I will call HD and see what I can do to be compensated. Granted the parts is "wearable" but 2,500 miles and it's toast - bullshit! I have never in all my years of riding (since the 70's) have I ever had a clutch wear out so quickly. Even my 2-stroke dirtbikes gave me at least 15k miles. And I abused the hell out of them.
I understand your aggravation, Sounds like BS to me as well. I feel bad for ya.
The plot thickens. I called HD in hopes of resolving the issue and hopefully be reimbursed. They said they have no record of the dealer calling them. HD has open a case number and will reach out to the dealership and get back to me on their findings. At this point I don't know what to believe. I have no reason to doubt my dealer, but I have no reason to doubt HD either as large corps like that have protocol to document communications.
I'm surprised they didn't cancel your warranty asap, being you told them your bike was involved in an accident. Minor as it may be, they will always look for a reason to deny coverage. And a clutch is a normal wear item. Like brakes, tire, bulbs, filters, oils, cam shoe tensioners. Don't be surprised if they tell you "you don't know how to drive a motorcycle with a clutch" and that caused it to prematurely wear. With those little miles on it, I'd get a second opinion on the clutch if I were you.,,,
To the best of my knowledge, the Sportster uses the same fluids as the big twins.
Mine didn’t. I bought a new one in 1991. I remember a white bottle that said something like Sportster Transmission Fluid or Sportster Primary Fluid or something similar that made it unique to sportsters. Things may have changed, but it is something I distinctly remember back then.
Edit
I just checked Harley’s site and apparently that is not the case anymore.
