I don't regret buying my CVO after almost 2 years of owning it. All of my other bikes have had a bunch of money and time dumped into them. My CVO got bars, seat, exhaust and a tune from my PV2. I am totally content with the bike, and don't feel the need to do anything to it.

As far as the wife, mine was actually happy that I bought a bike that I did not feel the need to tear apart. Good luck...

I have already put about $5k in extras in the bike, but I hate the idea of putting more money into it when I know that I will never get it back unless I keep it.

Thoughts or experiences....
Thought- If you already have that instinct on your present bike, then the natural thing is go for the new one.
Nothing you do to the present bike will ever be enough or bring any satisfaction.
Be completely honest with your feelings and thoughts with your spouse, If she really believes in your happiness and satisfaction, not to mention the reward for a life of work paying all the bills and dealing with employment hassles in all it's complexity.
It will be a reckoning.

I have to admit I am in with the new (I wanna say) Gun Ship Gray CVO, and I like the tattooed SG.
But I am not into payments and bank accounts could not handle a cash and carry on one of those and survive the rest of life requirements.
My plan is to get another "Road bike" (long trip machine) once I retire.
By then I should be able to find a good (low mile) used one for a whole lot cheaper.
At least that is the plan...

That depends...

If you have to "ask forgiveness instead of permission" (a valid response), how long will she deny you sex?

If you really have the scratch, I say get the CVO. We only get one turn at life, and you really can't take it all with you.

Does she know anything about bikes? If not just buy the bike you want and tell her its the same bike. Point out all the cool gadgets and paint on the CVO and tell her how you added it to the Street Glide. She'll never know and you'll have the bike you want.

Make your own CVO if you like the motorcycle its a lot of money love my HD but I wouldn’t buy a CVO. Way to many other options out there with a lot more to OfferUp then Harleys Over Priced CVO.

She knows plenty about bikes and she just bought her a new Slim this spring, that's probably why I want new bike.

Keep what you have, take the money wife's is cool with for upgrades, maybe tad more. Find a EVO FRX, maybe a Springer, you'll have something worth riding. And a ride going up rather that down in value.
