Harley Replacement Fairings
2016 Road King
I'm making replacement outer fairings for the Road Glide and Street Glide models as well.
I'm starting to make matching saddle bags as well.
Thoughts?
Are these liners or do they replace the outer part of the fairing? Will they ship ready to paint or is there prep work involved?
The fairings come predrilled for mounting, and primer painted. The only prep work would be to clean the edges as desired (some like them rounded, some squared off), wet sand and paint.
There are 2 types of fairings, ones that replace the windshield on Road Kings and Softails. After the stereo, speakers and wiring is completed, simply remove the windshield and mount this fairing using the same mounting pins as the windshield. In this case, there is an outer and an inner fairing.
Then there is the outer fairing replacement fairing. It's an actual replacement, meaning you remove the factory outer fairing and replace it with this new custom fairing.
This is the kind of stuff that I go see because it gives the opportunity to talk to the people who actually make it versus some sales rep over the phone.
Also, since you are making them, have you thought of making some, perhaps a two-piece fairing that would mount to the frame versus the forks?

It's funny you ask, I was looking at how to mount the fairing to the frame, similar to how the road glide fairing mounts.
I'll post pics once I get one made. It'll take some time, I not only have to make a mounting bracket, but also an inner fairing that fits the mount.
Thank you sir,

I got a similar comment earlier, I have a paid subscription for that reason. However, after the previous comment I looked into what, if anything, was different between a vendor account and a paid subscription and could not find anything that explained a vendor account (or how to get one). I did look into current vendor accounts and they seem to be more established businesses. I'm just doing this more as a hobby...hoping it grows into a business..lol
I'll keep looking and see if I can find more details on the vendor accounts and if it applies to me.
To be honest, I haven't looked at the 2018 sport glide yet...so much work just getting fairings for current models.
Thank you sir
