Default harley electric

so I see this post yesterday from Harley CEO. the electric will be a commuter bike for young people. he stated the new generation had no interest in engines and 6 speed transmissions, which is true. in other words, the bike won't be for the faithful, which makes sense since I bet it wont get 100 miles to a charge.

he didn't mention it, but I hope they put the v-rod engine in a touring bike next yr. I'v always seen it as a natural for the two. in order not to **** off the faithful, the moco could keep the standard engines and give the v-rod tourer a separate class. I guess we'll see........more than likely if they do, I'll trade for one.

I agree, the Revolution engine Harley and Porsche built was supposed to be the future of the company. I'll never understand why they killed it; the moco has already squeezed all the performance they could from air cooled v-twin technology imho. (If they came out with a vrod based bagger, i'd get on the waitlist in a second)

And the electric bike would only really make sense as an urban warrior close to home. If the price is right, it should be a hot seller among the younger city crowd.

Because compared to the other models; nobody bought it.

Here's what I'd do if I were in HD's top management. Fix the gasoline versions so they go down the road just like everybody else's and don't need engines replaced; THEN work on the electric model.

Default v-rod

I think they put the motor in a new frame, afraid to **** off the faithful with the end of potato/potato. I understand, but at 120 hp, that thing with some pretty pipes would be a natural for long distance touring. the 2 new streets are baby v-rods, detuned and all. we'll see.............

Also if that's the case, how is there still an aftermarket....market that is easily upping torque and hp by double digits. AND that's just the start. The m8 motor is capable of much more as well.

Poor sales killed the vrod.

Gas powered engines are going to the way of the dodo bird. they will be around probably until most of us on this forum dies off, but the reality is electric and hybrids are the future. Holding on to work on the electric model now is just not smart considering the way things are going.

Volvo ending making gas engines after 2019. its going to be electric or hybrid and thats it.

If it were me, I would establish a new second (dedicated) team/department/division to work on the electric models. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want the same people who have difficulty getting a relatively standard combustion engine to work properly designing and working on an electric one....something they presumably have no experience with. No reason both departments couldnt be working at the same time.

But also I would never buy an electric bike anyway so it doesn't really matter to me either way.

Why is this in the M8 forum and not the general discussion forum?
