Default Seats....

So what do all you long distance riders prefer, soft seat or very firm? Just had mine redone with some gel pad, but I'm thinking going firmer is the way to go.

I've had a Corbin Gunfighter on my bike for around 11-12 years. Been on several 4-500 mile days with no issues but then again, I ride enough that my butt and my leather Corbin have become as one, so in a nutshell, I prefer a hard seat over a soft seat any day because to me the hard seat is more stable than a soft one on longer rides but to each their own.

DITTO THAT

At first my Corbin seat (my old fxdl) felt firm ... But, after putting lots of miles it was the most comfy...

Hammock is the most comfortable seat I've rode on, done several 900+ mile trips non stop with no problem.

I have the Lepera Daytona Daddy Long Legs with gel. The seat is firm, but I also have a black sheep skin top, which keeps me cool in the VA summers and warm in colder riding. Big fan of sheepskin.

Have a Corbin and an Ultimate. The Corbin is firm, the Ultimate is a pillow.

I put the Corbin on for road trips. I use the Ultimate for bombing around town the rest of the year.

Supportive is the key to comfort in longer rides and most supportive ones will be firmer. Showroom seats are soft, because they are built cheaply (inexpensive foam, stapled on cover, vinyl) and designed so that when you as a potential buyer swing a leg over the bike it feels really nice at that dealership. Go for a long ride on that seat and you will soon start squirming because its too flexible and mushy. Harley builds all its seats with the same basic inexpensive open-cell foam, so look to the aftermarket for a quality seat.

I run Corbins on my Harleys, and have for years, Sargents on my BMW's. A lot comes down to personal preference as well - there's a lot of choices in this field.

i think your butt is more important than your seat . I dont believe any seat is comfortable on a bike if you dont even ride 100 miles a week then jump on for 4000 mile trip.
your seat and butt have to get use to each other and that comes with miles.
