I just purchased a Shoei J Cruise 3/4. I am extremely impressed with the fit and finish. This helmet is better than any others I have owned x 10. I looked hard at the Neotech but decided against it for the riding I do. I can highly recommend Shoei.
There's a ton of helmet threads I know, but couldn't really find what I was looking for. What is the best lightweight MODULAR in the $500 and under range? Definitely want modular, so please don't tell me about a half or 3/4. I'm dead set on modular as that's what I have now and like it. Wearing a Harley brand now, but think it's a little too heavy. Heading out on a really big ride soon so trying to find something a little lighter and maybe even something with a little more air flow. Been looking at the Shoei's, but don't really want to spend $700-$800 for a helmet!
Modulars are great but they get heavy at the end of a long day so I think your quest for lightweight is smart. Here is some info I put together as I was shopping for a new helmet to replace my HJC-Symax.
I bought the Scorpion.

Motorcycle Consumer News ( no advertising ) recently tested modular helmets and top rated one is the new Nolan N100-5.
Motorcycle Gear has good prices on them - http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street...cy_helmet.html
Helmet fit is tops for me and if you buy online make sure it's returnable should it not fit your head shape.
I like the Modular for high speed riding on trips. and a polo helmet for city riding.
I got my NEW Schuberth modular C3 pro on Ebay by a seller that bought one the wrong size I got it for $500 bucks and it weighs 3.5 lbs
Schuberth modular C3 Pro also incorporates two integrated antennas for increased Bluetooth range and better FM radio reception. The inner lining is made of carefully selected materials such as COOLMAX, Interpower and Thermocool
Only 82dB(A) at 100 km per hour (with naked bikes)
Pinlock visor prevents shield from fogging
Be aware of Any Helmet from the UK and other counties, They are ECE certified not DOT.
INSURANCE COMPANIES AND USA requires the helmet to be DOT

I've got the Shark Evoline Pro Carbon.... Really enjoy it, and its the only modular you can ride at full speed with the chin guard back.
Had a problem with the trim detaching, but nothing some epoxy couldn;t fix.
As with any helmet, the fit is going to be most important. I had a Bell Revolver modular helmet - not a bad helmet, nice features like drop-down visor, and decent ventilation, but a bit noisy. The problem was it is more round than oval, so did not fit my head. It is fine for about 45 minutes, but then I will get a headache from it pressing on my forehead.
I have an HJC 3/4 helmet that fits well, and was looking at their modulars. Last month I got an email that with the Shoei Neotec 2 coming out, the old Neotec's were going on closeout, and bought one for $499 from Revzilla. They are now sold out except for a few XL and XXL. The cheek pads were pretty tight at first and gave me a little bit a a chipmunk feeling, but they have broken in and fit snugly but not uncomfortable now. I have worn it on two long road trips, about 3k miles so far, and my only regret is I didn't buy it for full price two years ago.
