8-12k? No way is that competitive. Ducati is 20k and the Yamaha Vmax isnt far behind. Maybe 14-18k.
Im more inclined to compare the Streetfighter to the best current Streetfighter made: the Z1000. Stupid fast and stupid cheap for what you get. Literally the best budget big bike you can buy. Harley has obviously taken styling cues from the 2014 Z. The MoCo HAS to get this bike to be at the 10-12k range to compete with the jap bikes. In that segment youre competing for the wallet of the young, the Kaw and Yamaha Streetfighters are their biggest competition.
*I didnt (and most dont) have 20k to buy a Ducati (or HD SF) at 21-24 years olld...so I bought the next best thing.
HD has to go this route or they're toast. Good move indeed and I for one like that Streetfighter look. But if you're into that type of style the Ducati X Diavel is the way to go..
HD needs to continue focusing and improving their core business. The M8 was a start along with the improved softail chassis.
Quit selling the bs poser lifestyle and sell bikes.
Better engineers and some better technology needed.
Lighter construction.
If they want to compete in other than the core cruiser and touring market, spin off a company and do it under a different name and hire a new crew
Good point. But some are worse than others. That Harley would be king of the ugly pile. They should look to their Italian cousin for some styling tips. But I would ditch that dual headlamp. Looks like Spy VS Spy.
