Every time I see someone revving the heck out of their bike just to make attention noise whether Harley or sport bike I think South Park really nailed it.
Next, he will ask about reading the spark plugs-
Is Ok to be Ghay?
What oil is best.?
What is corner steer?
What groupes can O ride with?
Does this air cleaner look good?

The argument about cold engine needs lube makes no sense. The oil pump is driven by the crank, right? The faster it turns the quicker the oil gets to the top and sumps out of the bottom. Reving an engine when cold without lubrication would cause clatter in the lifters, no? I never hear clatter in my lifters on startup (or ever for that matter).
Is it unnecessary? Is it annoying? Those are different questions. She asked if it would be bad for the engine. I see no evidence it is bad for the engine.
Having a CVO is like having a hot girlfriend who you want to bring into the bar, show off and say "look at me". Regular Harleys are like your wife, more utilitarian. You leave her in the truck when you go drinking at the bar but you're proud enough when asked to tell anyone who asks they can go out to the truck and see her if they are interested in such things.
Have a friend with a CVO Dana. He paid over 25K for it and still modified the engine. Four of us were standing in front of Hardees checking it out when he climbed on, starter it up and he proceeded to flog it good. He's sitting there with the throttle cranked WOT and I look down and the Tac is bouncing at 6500RPM. It's so loud, I am sure the Hardees manager is going to call the law.
I just back up after glancing at the TAC. Later, I ask him if he had ever thought about that damaging it. He just laughed and said it was made to do it. He told me his weedeater did it. If a Harley couldn't do it, it could blow up.
No matter what vintage Harley it is, letting it warm up slowly allows the big engine parts like cylinders to " grow " evenly. Revving it at start up is just plain stupid.
