There's no need to rev a cold engine, carb'd or FI, that's in good running order. I believe that it causes more wear than revving or loading it at full operating temperature. This was more of a problem when engines and their internal parts were manufactured to looser tolerances but I think it still holds true today to some degree.

The "feller" I mentioned has a "look at me" complex...kind of like when people ride through the storefront part of town looking at themselves in the windows...only worse.

You guys really ought to have kickstart High CR, carbed engines !!
On a hot day you DONT want the SOB to EVER stall again!
Perhaps not on a cold day either.
We are all slaves to what we think we know.

Kind of along the same lines as guys who buy a new vehicle, they SLAM the doors, SLAM the hood/trunk lid, hammer the controls on the dash. They start the vehicle and even before the starter motor has stopped spinning they have it in gear and blast away. THEN they complain about the vehicle being a POS at 30,000 miles or less. My response is, no YOU beat the **** out of it because YOU can't get your testosterone under control, and act like a bull in a china shop 24/7. There is nothing 'manly' about abusing stuff.

Same goes for reving a cold engine, ignorant at best but...

^^^ man, my one neighbor does just that. His whole family. I think they used to own a 78 Chevy Suburban or something. Now they have Brand new Mercedes vehicles. My other neighbor fires up his fuel injected Chevy truck and lets it "warm up" for 20 minutesbefore dropping it into gear all year round ......

She asked a simple question, is it bad for a cold motor to be revved? That's all she asked and received some thoughtful responses. The first couple of sentences just established how much he is revving.

Lauren, my guess is it's a habit from days gone by. I've ridden with a lot of people over the years and lots of guys blip the throttle. I remember back in the 60's and 70's when I first started on dirt bikes we always blipped the throttle after starting. I think it was so it wouldn't stall. With all of the electronics these days I don't think that is necessary. Someone mentioned placing your hands over your ears as a gesture of how loud it is. That's a pretty good idea, I think.

thanks Sarah, yeh I re-read my post and wondered where I whined. Some of these guys could start an argument with themselves. All I wanted to know what is it bad for the engine.
