If you go 16" you will need brake hose, clutch cable and wiring extensions. Need to check local laws also. In NY your bars cant be above your shoulders.... but like said before, just below shoulders is comfy. Monkey bars are nice, but a biotch to wire internally so keep that in mind.

Just a question.....not trying to bash, just understand..........why do people with a fairing on their bikes want apes? The whole purpose of the batwing is to keep the wind off your hands and arms when riding the bike, yet apes put your hands and arms up and into the wind. Even the shape of the batwing is designed to cover your hands. I can see apes on a "naked" bike, but putting apes on a bagger defeats the whole point of the fairing. Example:

comfort, the stock bars tend to make my hands go numb. It straightens out my arms and makes for a more comfortable ride.

I'm putting 14" on my Softail now.
In the process of extending wires now, but I ordered the wrong crimp ends.

The point of a fairing is more than protecting your hands... it also keeps your chest protected and calms the space around your head. Me, I didn't notice any comfort downside to my hands being raised above the fairing, but damn if it isn't 100 times more comfortable position.

Comfort, to be able to sit up straight is immeasurably more comfortable then being hunched over like I am with the stock bars.

Your height and seat will also play a small part in your bar selection

And if you are planning on swapping seats make sure that the padding is the same.
