Go big with Schott, NYC. Believe me, it will last a lifetime if you take care of it.. They are one of the pioneer MC jacket companies. May as well spend more up front than go through a few cheap ones through the years. Best leather and quality I've ever had. Heavy as hell...thick leather. I bought the Perfecto about 13 years ago, and had some vintage NOS Harley patches sewn on. The sun and weather has given it some great patina. It's going to my kids when I croak.

It's a Revit. I'm primarily interested in function first (i.e., protection), then country of origin or looks second. With all the protection installed, this jacket weighs a ton. And no, it doesn't smell like **** (camel or otherwise).

I'd love to purchase a Fox Creek if it had the equivalent level of construction and protection.

As to leather, does anybody actually source their leather from the U.S.? Given all the environmental regulations for tanning and treatment and such, I'd figure all of it came from outside the EPA-zoned USA.

I was heavily involved in the leather jacket business back in the 80's (as a sideline), we supplied to most of the major US retailers (Macys, Nordstroms, many others). In those days, Korea was the main supplier, but as Korea changed into electronics, production moved elsewhere. Visited Korea many times and visited the factories more than once. Cheap to make as they had dormitories for the workers, who worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, for low pay, but they made to spec.

I think most leather jackets have always been produced offshore as US is too expensive. Nothing wrong with that. The key is the specs to which they are made. If MOCO produces in Pakistan, then pretty sure they have high specs and they make sure their specs are met. Same with China - they make a lot of cheap crap, but they are quite capable of making very high level stuff ... it's all in the specs (and the monitoring).

If you are talking about buying a knockoff, I'd forget about it, it won't be made to high specs and may turn out to be junk.

If you want HD brand, wait for a sale or buy from Surdyke (HD dealer and online), best discounts I've found (maybe one dealer better but forget who that is). My HD jacket of some years is very well made and I'm still quite happy with it (don't know where it was made at the moment).

I also have a Roland Sands jacket, very nicely made, has armor pockets but no vents, haven't worn it much but its nice and makes for a very nice non-riding jacket. Got it half off at Revzilla. Just looked on Revzilla and they have the Roland Sands Ronin jacket with perforated leather (mine is same but not perforated) on sale for half off, also a few other nice looking jackets half off.

You can get some nice Schott Perfectos on Ebay. I picked up a couple this past year. If they end up not being your size you can always resell on Ebay and get your money back. Maybe even make a few $$.

Is that really a good thing?

No more MoCo leather jackets for me. My current all leather FXRG jacket quality is lacking compared to the last moco jacket I got in 99. Leather is thinner, zippers and zipper pulls are junk. The only plus it has over my old jacket is the venting and armor pockets. HD armor is laughable. Upgraded all the armor to level 2 D3O

Next round its fox creek for me. Better, thicker leather and armor pockets for armor of my choosing.

Much like anything else I am sure not all paki leather is alike. I am sure you can find something decent out there. Personally, I rather pay for the best gear I can get my hands on than go cheap.
