Just got these this year. very comfortable to wear even off the bike. I would wear them to work to break them in. Haven't ridden in the rain with them yet so I don't know about how water tight they are.
If you want truly waterproof you have to get Gore-tex. There's tons of boots out there that claim waterproof but your feet will get wet if the rain lasts long enough, I guarantee it.
I had the Sidi Canyon boots for a while, but the toe box was always slightly narrow for my foot. They don't do wide versions, so I sold them for Alpinestar Gore-tex boots. Much better fit, and a little softer to move around in. They're keepers.
I wear these Italian made Zamberlans. Excellent Gore Tex lined boot with a heavy duty sole that really supports the bottom of my cheap feet. They're a high quality hiking boot, so if I get off the bike to do a lot of walking it just doesn't get much better than these.
I have been wearing Bates boots for the last few years now. My go to waterproof boot was the Bates GX-8 Side Zip Boot with Gore-Tex. Last year I tried the Bates Shock 8" Side Zip. The Shock is a tactical boot, which makes it better for walking around after a long day of riding. The Shock is water proof like the GX-8, both boots weigh the same but the Shock seems more comfortable at the end of the day.
I wear Wesco Harness Boots. They are treated with Obenaughs oil leather treatment. these boots are waterproof. I buy it by the gallon. It was developed to help the guys that jump from planes to fight fires. I use it on all my leather and so far have never experienced any water penetration. My boots are heavy duty riding boots. I have used these boots for 6 yrs with no problems. As I stated before these are riding boots and are heavy, but very comfortable. Check out their website and see for yourself. All materials and labor are American. A little pricey but can be rebuilt when signs of wear appear. I'm in Florida and can talk at length about rain. My wescos have never failed me and offer the best protection from road hazards such as rocks or whatever. Hope this helps.
Please forgive the rambling, at this time. My back is killing me and my meds are not helpful when trying to put together my thoughts to the kind people here.
I had a pair of Dehner riding boots custom made in 1986....still wearing them. They're on their 4th set of soles.
Hate to think what they cost now a days. They're not waterproof but they're so comfortable I can wear them all day. Keeps the road slag from whacking my shins, keeps the heat off, and they look good doing it. They get better with age.
