You would think you could road hunt them. But go sit in the woods with a gun and wait for one. Though I havn't tried all that hard.

I was doing about 40 when a turkey took flight from the brush, flew low across the other lane toward me, slowly gaining altitude. I ducked as he went just over my head. Funny thing, I stopped at the next light and a guy in a pickup who was following pulls up next to me and says “holy **** man...do you have to change you underwear or what”. Turkeys are everywhere, they are clumsy and slow in flight...watch out.

had a turkey hit me in the right shoulder as I was on my way to work one morning a bunch of years ago. I saw him on the edge of a field as I approached, not knowing what it was yet and figured he would fly the other way as I got closer, which is what usually happens. instead, this thing turns toward the road and starts to walk, then run and finally lifts off. flew right into my shoulder. fortunately, I drove thru it and ended up with only bruises on my arm. all the damage was to the bird. I looked back and saw a bunch of feathers slowly falling toward the road.
I never thought much of this until I read this thread. guess I was fortunate.
