I have my own rule at a red light, especially if I'm first in line.
When light turns green, I count 1001, 1002, 1003 the move.
Thirty years ago in a cage the light turned, the MFer behind me blew horn as a large commercial straight axle flatbed blew the light. he'd of killed me.
Thanks Dad for ingraining the 1003 count into my head.....
Ditto. I wait too. My wife does not understand, and when I tell her why, she still does not understand...
Ya'll should try a day of riding in LA or the Bay Area, it'd put things in whole new perspective for you.
No thank you. I've ridden in Philly & NJ & hope to never experience that crap again. It's also one of the many reasons I like living in the sticks. I avoid traffic like the plague & can go out for a 6-8 hr putt & only ride 5-10 miles total of 4-lane roads.
Riding in Europe was a whole different vibe. So many more motorcycles & scooters on the road, as well as a population that knew how to drive. I'm sure the 'migrant' issue has changed that for the worse, but I had a ball bombing around Germany, Austria & France during the 2 tours I pulled in Germany in the early '90's & mid '00's.
It's a reflection of life in general nowadays ! People rushing everywhere, don't want others in front of them, I wish I could go back to when I was a teen when politeness was the order of the day, and not just on the road !...b.
I sure miss those days also. 35 years back if one wanted to change lanes, just signal and the ones behind would back off a bit and give you room. now days they floorboard it and close the gap so you can not merge.

I was born and raised in the rural Midwest, lived in California in my twenties, and I was stupefied with culture shock the entire time. It's like watching a dystopian Orwell/Huxley story in real time. Such a waste. There were so many things I loved about California.
The country seems more alien everyday. The concept of being respectful and courteous went out when bad behavior went unpunished. Why not be petulant if you are a sociopath snowflake and never spanked?

This is what i do also. Don't matter if i'm on the bike or in the truck. I've got to see quite a few accidents while waiting those few seconds. I also don't make a move until the oncoming traffic has come to a stop.
