Default Dealer Pricing

This may be a strange question, but I'm having some discomfort with the pricing at a local dealership. I've bought several cars in my day and I know the sticker is a jumping point for the haggling to begin.

However, the lack of any sticker at the HD Dealership makes me a mite nervous. Each time I ask a salesman for a price, he gives me a range that varies by about $5,000.

Today, I asked point blank, "just give me the price." He told me I would have to do some song and dance with the sales manager and they would need to ask me several questions first. I asked for a ball park range before we do all that paperwork and the price he gave me was about $4,000 higher than the MSRP I've seen on the Harley site. I know that's a "starting at" price, but I wasn't looking at any pricey accessories anywhere.

Is this practice the same at all Harley dealers? I'm very used to walking in, seeing a sticker price, and then trying to get the price down to what I want to pay. It seemed this dealer had the "take it or leave it, we're the only game in town" attitude.

Is this a Harley thing? I'm hoping not, because I would like to deal with a dealer who shoots straight.

Thanks!

They would need to ask you several questions before they could quote you a price?Doesnt make sense to me, if they cant give you a simple answer to a simple question then I would go somewhere else.. What kind of bike are you looking at?

If it's too hard to give you a price , just walk out of there

We have a car dealer around here like that... find another dealer that deals straight up...

I refuse to pay over MSRP.

I'm looking at a Deluxe. They told me they had one "in the box" and they expected to sell it sight unseen. I have a feeling they figure they can call all the shots on the price since they are the only deal in town.

In my case I decided what I wanted and what I was willing to pay.

I got the same kind of treatment from a few dealerships but there are dealerships everywhere. I found what I wanted for the price I was willing to pay. Then I rode it back to a few of those other dealerships just to wave at the salesmen.

Ain't nothing wrong with finding another dealer a bit farther away. Just think you get a longer ride home when buy her My dealer is 30 miles away I liked the people better....they make up CVOs $5000....I have no problem with traveling 50 miles to save $5000. Only thing is if you buy the extended warrenty you usually have to go to the dealer you bought it from for that type of work. (Inital warrenty is any dealer)

If they screw with you on the initial purchase, they will continue with everything else. Go elsewhere and don't look back.

My dealer has prices marked on everything.

tell em straight out you are going to another dealer because they couldn't deal with you straight at msrp, then walk out..

btw, which dealer is this (what city, state) lots of people here might know whom you are trying to deal with.
