My bike is a 2015 HD Ultra Glide Low. I contacted HD Customer Service because I have an ESP and inquired as to whether an software update is required. Adding that the roadways I traveled when this problem occurred were at least ten (10) years old. Simply put HD said not only is the update not covered, the update might not necessarily fix the problem. I then offered the opinion if the software was obsolete before I bought the bike? Is anyone else experiencing this situation? My additional opinion is if the software was obsolete when I bought the bike I should at least receive one update no charge?
Don't confuse software updates for the system (which are free), with "Map Updates" which are not free.
I don't know of any manufacturer that has built in GPS systems in their vehicles that give map updates for free.
Ford and GM sure don't.
Sure most of the newer stand alone units from Garmin have lifetime map updates. But manufacturers are not using those in their built in GPS systems.
So, unless you can convince a dealer to pay for your map upgrade you probably are not going to get a free map update.
My '15 Limited is still running the original map, and it is working good enough for my needs.
I have done multiple free software updates though.
Each person will have to make their own decision on if paying for a map update is worth it to them.
For me its not.
I also have a stand alone Garmin that is about 10 years old that has never had the map updated (It didn't come with lifetime updates), and I didn't want to pay for the new map update.

When did you buy the bike?
It's almost 5 years old at this point. You cant expect HD to update your maps for free forever.
I paid for lifetime maps on a tomtom but it for so old that it didn't have enough memory to store the new maps. They offered me $100 off list price for a new unit. I said no thanks I'll use my phone.
Most new cars and a few bikes now come with apple car play and Android Auto instead of their own navigation systems.
