Default Thinking About Getting a Trike

My old bones don't seem to be getting any less painful or mobile and I can see my days on 2 wheels are numbered.

I'm thinking about adding a Tri-Glide to the stable to start that transition. I'm not ready to give up my Street Glide just yet, but thought I give a trike a try and see how I like it. I know I'll miss power steering hard like a boss through a corner, but I'm guessing I won't miss getting blown around by the wind. Or when I've ridden hard all day and so tired that I almost forget to put my feet down at a stop, which by the way is an age thing, at least for me.

Just curious for input from folks that have transitioned to a Trike and how you like it. I know there will be those that say I have to give up my HDForums man card but I lost that a long time ago when I proclaimed my love for cats.

Fire away ye of all knowing!

As I close in on my eighth decade, many folks mention that thought to me. It just seems like a "sell out" to my manhood for me. I have a Street Glide and a Sportster and absolutely love both of em. Also, I'm not the type that feels the need to carry everything I own with me all the time. That is what I typically see when folks buy a full dresser or trike. Less is more to me.

I'll follow this thread to see if someone can change my mind.

My best advice would be to if you can rent one for a week and see how you like it. I have owned 2 tri glides and just bought Saturday a Freewheeler. The tri glides were ok just not for me. Freewheeler seems easier to ride.

Can i keep my man card with a sidecar?
I was looking at trikes and my friend told me to get a Mazda Miata instead. So i bought a sidecar and have not looked back. My riding friend just bought a CVO trike and he loves it

Theres nothing wrong with a trike. I comptemplated one about 5 years ago when I was in my early 50s. The OL liked the idea (she also rode).. I got rid of the OL instead.

I bet it would be harder to ride with a sidecar than ride a trike. What do you guys think?

I think it would be harder. Always liked the Ural rigs too bad they are so undependable.

The Can Am Spyders are 10x the machine of a TriGlide. My Father had a Tri Glide, and what a pig. So slow and underpowered. The extra width (wind resistance) and weight really slow it down. Like 80mph top speed with a 25mph cross wind or headwind. And terrible fuel mileage, like 20mpg on a windy day. Definitely ride one on the slab in windy conditions before buying one. They need another 30hp, in my opinion to compensate for the extra heft.
The Spyder is much more refined, and handle way better too.

Fullmoon Customs in Ault has done several trike conversions. He has several ways of doing it. Lot cheaper and look pretty good. Give him a call.
