If I could visit one place it would be the Stoney Indian reservation near Calgary. That's where Kevin Costner filmed the movie "Open Range" also, read the book "The Ghost Rider" by Neal Peart (the drummer for RUSH) It's a little depressing, but it reads like a travelogue of western Canada. Hope ya have a good time and be safe!
August is the best month.Temps.range from 20-40C.The weather in the mountains can change rapidly so carry rain gear. The roads are all very good, with lots of places to stop.Watch out for wild life, they like to cross in front of bikes.
Good time frame. I'm origionally from Edmonton and wouldn't ride near there; too boring. We trailer down to Calgary (9hrs south; we live in Fairview AB) and ride from there. Just did 1600km through the Kootenay's; some of the best riding anywhere I figure...I'd go east from Vancouver on highway 3; then north on 22 and back west again or north on any of the East Kootenay highways. The Okanagan area will be polluted with RV's; we found the Kootenay's almost deserted by comparison. We did the OK in June and the BC Peace Country in early July. Budget as little as 300km a day; roads are twisty and slow and lots of interesting places to stop.
