that 34.6% part is what inspires me to wear a full face..

I wore a 3/4 until receiving a cut chin, that would have been protected by the 34.6% part. Back then, in 1971, FF helmets were more obtrusive, especially in the desert heat, then they are today. But I realized how easily accidents can happen and how vulnerable my face could be, so I toughed it out and wore them anyway.

My son, 25 year old USMC Vet, tough as f**** and yet, I'\ve never heard someone moan so loud as I did last night. He's in serious pain. Paperwork he got from hospital say's 6 broken ribs, lacerated spleen and fractured spine. Fortunately he doesn't need spinal surgery.

For some reasons I want DualSport helmet again, despite it would look strange with classic Sportster

I've had a few Shoei helmets over the years and have had zero complaints about any of them. The Neotec II is my favorite, almost no wind noise and I never get wet while riding in the rain. I've been riding since 1970 and never ride without a helmet, don't want to become an organ donor.

Shoei Neotec 2 Helmet Review - YouTube
I love my Neotech, and I was all fired up about getting the new Neotech 2. Well, until I found out that it has a cavity for the proprietary Bluetooth setup, right where the normal headset module goes. And, you cannot mount a standard SENA or Cardo unit there, unless you give up the normal mounting bracket and use the peel-&-stick mounting. Guys that have done that say it works fine, but it makes me very nervous.

Broken

This would have been death without this lid. Happened last Saturday
A gal on a HOG ride I was leading hit the guardrail in a curve at low speed. Basically just fell off the bike, over the guardrail, and landed on a slight downslope in soft dirt. I was the first rider to get to her. She was in some pain, but was more concerned about the 9mm in her jacket. She slipped it to me and I got it to her husband, who was not on the ride, later at the hospital.

So here's the important part: At the moment she fell to the ground, face first, the first thing that happened was that the face shield on her 3/4 helmet popped off, and she broke her nose. I've seen color photos of a rider wearing a 3/4 helmet who hit a guardrail face first. No, I'm not posting it.

Trust me, you see one of those pictures and you won't leave the driveway without a full face, one-piece or modular, ever again.

Full face helmets being a sport bike thing is no longer true, most younger guys think half helmets look dorky. I got my first bagger at 30 years old, 34 now, and never liked how a half helmet looked or felt on me. I wear one occasionally but my main lid is a Simpson outlaw, it looks amazing and has a snell rating. I wear earplugs with it but i also wear ear plus because i have a D&D pipe. I just sold my neotec 2, I liked it but it's a heavy helmet. I'm going to get a carbon fiber mod bandit before next season. There's lots of options for full face helmets that work with the looks of a Harley, you don't have to wear one with a dragon graphic or Japanese swords on it anymore. The bell Eliminator or anything from Simpson, bells modular looks great, the shoei neotec or rf are also excellent, or the Arai defian, all great options. I wouldn't ride too far without a full face.

For years I was no gear, all the time - I wanted the wind in my hair and to ride free - until - I saw my friend and rider go down at 10 mph on a gravel road. They were basically skinned. Next day I went out and bought a leather jacket and full face helmet. This was in the early '80s. I didn't like wearing the full face but made myself wear it. I feel very comfortable in them now and see many Harley riders also in full face now.

I also think with all the riders classes in the last 20 years, they emphasize gear and helmets, so you have seen a gradual change. Nowadays most people wear leather, or mesh in summer and full face. It seems to me, in my town, that the only ones now who don't wear helmets are the older Harley riders. I'll admit, I used to feel a little self conscious in my mesh, or leather jacket and full face on my dynas or sportster, but I don't anymore. I see many more Harley riders also wearing full face helmets now.

I ride in a t shirt and jeans a lot, but that's just skin. Usually have a vest and gloves on though. That recovery will suck but it'll be a recovery. Your helmet is the only piece of gear designed to save your life, so when I see someone in chaps and a leather jacket and big bad boots but an ebay German war helmet with a fake dot sticker, I just don't get it....you can regrow skin but not your brain.
