While well intentioned I am sure, this is not good advice regarding ethanol fuel. I would advise reading up on phase separation and the hydrophilic nature of ethanol. I would never advise someone to leave ethanol fuel in a tank for a year. That is truly asking for trouble.
Your correct. When you quoted me, system does not show what I had quoted. My last sentence says measure closely and is his reference to what he was adding to his tank.
I am72 and we have had 10% here on the coast for 35 years. I work on everything including major rebuilds. (Think my last will be the Jeep you see in my avatar) I see no problems with for 4-5 months . My Harley did set now almost 8 and I pulled the fuel. It however would run. First time I have ever saw bottom of tank. It has some kind of sealer coatings on it. No rust.
My Yamaha two stroke Outboard routinely clogs up if it sits too long. Just gummed up oil mix from the evaporated fuel.
I don't see the doom and gloom being ethanol. But just my opinion.
Ive got news for you, it generally all comes from the same distributors
It may all come out of the same tank farm, what differs between brands is the additives and detergents.
They are added at the tank farms
Bob's Discount Gas may be selling the EPA mandated formulation, where a BP is selling "Top Tier" gasoline with a detergent and additive package that keeps things from carboning up.
Why even consider a lower octane, you associated it to price. For easy math sake let's say you ride 15k miles a year, average 50mpg and your higher octane costs .50c a gallon more, that's only 150$ a year!
Now let's make the thread even more interesting. What's the best type of oil to run in that lowered octane bike?

I liken it to all the people that complain about gas prices. They may go up $0.02 per gallon so people drive all the way across town to buy the cheapest. It's like $2.00 difference, but you'll spend that and 20 mins to get it from another station! DOH!
