One of my slip-ons fell off the 08 Wide Glide too. Had them installed when I bought the bike. Mechanic said he hated those new slip-ons because the clamps would not hold. Old style had screws or rivets?
Dadgum right , I had 13 spokes get loose and brake on an old Kawasaki KZ 400 years ago.
Then 40 + years later I had some spokes on my 2000 Wide Glide break and ruin a trip for me. That is the reason that I had HD mag wheels installed on my Road King classic before It ever left the Dealership.
Lost a US Nickel coin from the Tach drive on my Bonnie.
The Nickel is a perfect fit on the floor of the drive.
Put it back together w/ new nickel, no good.
Talked to Bobby at John's Triumph in Woodside.
He told me I needed a couple Pennies above the Nickel to raise the height of the gear in the drive.
Repair cost 8 cents.
Greased gears, locktite where threaded on, JB Weld and slightly dimpled edge of housing around that Nickel to hold that Money in place.
Wow! Your mention of John's Triumph reminded me of halcyon days...Bought my first bike from John's in '72. It was a '69 BSA. gave me a month's warranty. A week after the month was up, a couple issues cropped up & I got a flat. John said bring it in, & he fixed it all for free, including the flat. You don't get this kind of customer service anymore.
I had a side cover fall off on my 2005 Sportster many years back not long after purchasing the bike. Dealer gave me a new one for free since it got scratched up pretty bad bouncing down the road.
There I was at a red light, then light turns green me and my buddy take off. I raised my right foot to place it on the peg, nothing there! I dont look down right away thinking somehow I over reached but NO, it was gone, lol. At the next light I told my buddy I had to swing around to the last light. I found my peg but not the part that holds it in. I put the peg in my pocket and rode home luckily only three blocks away after being out all day.
Last weekend my buddys headlight ring fell off his RK and was holding on by a wire, lol. Luckily another guy had tools with him.
You can only put loctite on so much!
Hasnt happened to me yet. However, riding down to Vegas with a buddy a few years ago, the big chrome battery box badge on his FXDB fell off on the freeway. Luckily, I noticed what it was right as it was striking me in the shin.
yup. 07 electraglide the shifter fell off the spline when i was on rt9 in Connecticut doin about 80mph, the shifter stayed on the floorboard, was an easy fix
