A few part came loose but were caught before they fell off. Only thing I remember losing was one of the bolts that holds the turn signal bracket to the rear fender on my ‘94 FLSTN. The bracket makes a hell of a noise when it’s loose.

I had a highway peg fall off and it was an HD big heavy chrome one. It bounced and hit my buddy's bike behind me (no damage thankfully). Also had the shifter linkage (factory) come unscrewed - got off of an exit, went to downshift and nothing.

I had the nut behind the handlebars (Me) fall off. Does that count?

Lived about a mile and a half down a gravel road years ago, couldn't keep rear turn signals and lenses on. That was when I started pulling turn signals off my bikes and using hand signals. I also had a windshield fall off on the highway after hitting a pot-hole, broke right across the bolt holes.

Yes but ironically it was my Honda dual sport, not my HD.

Lost an O-ring highway peg on my '75 XLCH on the way to Laconia. Went to the swap meet and found one with the nut and bolt in less than 1/2 an hour!

My wife and I were in the Pocono Mountains about 10 years ago. The place we were staying in had just about everything you could want from a hotel except for a restaurant. So the 2nd morning we got up and headed for a local diner about 5 or 6 miles from the hotel. About half way there I heard something bouncing on the road beside me, the sound was metal hitting asphalt. I looked in the mirror and caught a glimpse of it but I couldn't make out exactly what it was so we proceeded to the diner and had breakfast.
After breakfast we started doing a little riding and sightseeing so about an hour into it I went to kick up my highway pegs and guess what... The metal I heard earlier hitting the asphalt was my peg bouncing off the road. On the way back I went by the area I thought the peg would be but there was a decent amount of traffic and I didn't get a chance to look for it so I chalked it up as a sacrifice to the great spirit of the road and moved on.

Another time I was riding behind a friend who had an older Shovelhead. My friend was not much of a mechanic so the bike was not in great condition. We were riding along when all of a sudden one of his pipes flopped down and was dragging on the road. It had vibrated loose and the only thing holding it on was a thin little home made bracket. I assume that this had probably happened before because my friend had some bailing wire in his bag and was able to rig it up enough to get home.

I had my gas cap come off on my 72 XLCH on a highway on top of a levee back in the late 70s. I was riding with a buddy and both of us was getting on it pretty hard. All of a sudden my chest was getting wet and I looked down to see my gas cap was gone. It had one of those 3 spiked covers on it which made it pretty heavy for a gas cap. My buddy and I turned around to go look for it figuring it rolled down the side of the levee never to found again. To our surprise the gas cap was laying in the middle of the road. The only problem was that the rubber gasket was gone. We walked about 50 feet further down the road and there was the gasket, although torn, laying in the middle of the road. I managed to get the gas cap on and stay on and we went on to our destination. I had to put my gas soaked shirt back on when we got to the there. It was dry by then but still reeked of gasoline. It was not the most comfortable situation with my chest irritated by being soaked with gas and people sniffing the air and looking at me. When I got home I took off the gas cap cover, which was on the bike when I bought it, and put a new gasket on it. It never came off again after that.
