How ya guys doin? I have a 1990 harley ultra classic electra glide and ive heard alot of people say evos are the best harley motor and theyre bulletproof but ive had nothing but problems with mine. So was just curious about everyones opinions
Evos have a reputation for being durable but a ten cent wire connector can make an engine unreliable so I join with Prot in wondering what the problems were.
its blown a few headgaskets and ive had it rebuilt twice. Now supposedly the heads are warped so i don't know. I just think ive had some bad luck is all cuz my grandfather rode that harley before me for the better part of 30 yrs and never had any problems. Im just a young kid who really loves harleys and i love my old evo and im just trying to learn as much as i can

So you've "blown a few head gaskets" and had it rebuilt twice, and you're just a young kid?
Hell, that's a normal day for 99% of us on here, so you just keep on rocking kid, you're doing it right...
I would bet that the heads have been warped for a while. The cylinder decks may not be flat anymore either. Any engine will be prone to head gasket failure if these fits aren't good.
Did your builder check them prior to putting it together?
Evo's are good engines. You seem to be on a run of bad luck with yours, unfortunately.
Base and head gasket issues were a common problem on Evo's, and certain years crack the cases around the lifter block area. I had a 90 Softail custom that I bought brand new, and then 11 years the only problem I had with it was when the starter motor started to slip. You got a good bike there check for head warpage like the previous poster said. Could happen after all these years
You probably have a cylinder stud pulling the threads out of the crankcase if you keep blowing head gaskets. Check out the EVO section of the forum for a solution to your problem.
