Default Revving bike shortly after start up... how bad

So I normally don’t rev my bike or do any of those “look at me” things, but I had my little godson over and he absolutely loves motorcycles and engines (his dad owns a mustang performance shop).
long story short, and a few drinks in me, it seemed like a good idea at the time to start the bike and put a smile on the kids face. So started her up and after 30 seconds to a minute, I gave some entertaining throttle cracks to let him hear the M8 with VH pipes. The throttle was not held at rev at all, in fact it was released just as fast as it was cracked to half throttle or so...the throttle was closed before the Rpms could catch up to throttle position. Rpm hit the mid 3’s. Did this 4-5 times, let it idle another 30 seconds then shut her off.
on a side note, the bike was ridden to operating temp a couple hours before that so not sure if it was completely “cold”

question is, although it gave the kid some big smiles, did I likely harm the engine? How bad is this? Engine has fresh Lucas synthetic in it. I’m an ex motocross racer so I may have some bad habits lol.

It’s fine. If it was zero degrees out and the thing was sitting for a couple of months would be a different story…..:

Probably nothing to worry about. Stone cold would have been worse. I think all is well. How's the neighbors?

I’m usually pretty considerate, so I don’t think the neighbors are ready to key my car just yet. Haha

ambient temps were in the low 70’s.

honestly, I’m sure the drinks helped, but I don’t know who was enjoying the bark of me cracking that throttle more... me or the kid. We both had smiles.

Hate to say this, but your engine is toast! If it were a good motor like the TC, or even better, and EVO, then you could have drained all the oil, started it underwater, and revved it to 47K rpm and it would be fine. But the M8? No way. First of all, it probably sumped all the oil in the first 30 seconds, then it transferred all the tranny fluid to the primary. Then the data connection probably alerted HD that the ignition was on while the owner had a BAC of greater than .01 therefore voiding any and all warranty.

Nah, but seriously, as someone who is OCD about starting and bringing things up to temp, and as a happy M8 owner (with VH pipes), I would say you're fine. 50 years ago, with carbs and crappy oil, not so much... But with the engine tolerances and oils today, revving after startup won't hurt anything, especially in mild temps

As long as you had oil pressure and didn't rev the **** out of it you are all right.

being relatively new to Harley, if what the OP did will damage a motor, I don't think my love affair will last long if they're THAT damn fragile

I don’t think what I did would be considered reviving the snot out of it. I usually rev my engines in a way that although not a load per se, the engine has a load trying to build its own inertia against the crank....the throttle is released prior to the Revs catching up to the throttle position, if that makes sense.

the M8 symphony was a handful of loud barks, not screams .
