What is MSRP?
Looking to purchase a new 2021 Softtail slim and don't want to get taken.
MSRP is $15999. A couple of dealers I have visited looking to sell this bike at around $19000..
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and recent experiences.
Thats your approx. If its 19k OTD = Thats a loaded bike and DMV + a pizza,,,
2021 Softail Slim
VIVID BLACK
$15,999
COLOR
$16,399
TWO-TONE
$16,749
ABS OPTION
+ $795
SECURITY OPTION
Standard
CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS
+ $200
FREIGHT
+ $390
Vivid Black $15,999 + $795 (ABS) + $390 (Shipping) = $17,184 IF THERE ARE NO OTHER MODS ADDED BY DEALER
Then around here its another $100 for "Title Origination Fees"???
Now that inventory is so "challenged", I'd expect that on any desirable bike they'll try and get more for it.
But, for me, if I was looking the $17,184 is my reference number and I'll try to stick to that or less...
and may go home w/o a bike, and wait till the fall.
It is so subjective though, with a lot based on location... and times have definitely changed lately lol
In the fall of 2016 I was looking for a 2016 RGU, I think list back then was $26200. I waited until the 2017 models had been on the showroom floors for a month.
The 2017 had the new M8s in them and it seemed like they wanted the 16s gone. I got my 16 RGU for $22500 out the door.
Following spring (March-April 2017) I was in Huntington Beach HD and the very same 16 RGU had a $30,000+ price tag on it.
Said right on it "$4000 Dealer Prep" adder (it was bone stock, just like mine, but with CA emissions) - "Overhead" I'd guess, pricey real estate out there for a dealer.
I'd shop around, and not be in a hurry. If you got to have it now, you might have to pay more...

MSRP is a made up number.
For a '20 model, this is what they're showing, so that should give you an idea of what's going on with prices these days.
As mentioned, dealers can put any price they want on a bike. They know what's selling and what's not selling.
I presume you have a trade in. Decide for yourself what you are willing to pay, out the door. Then look for dealers that will sell you the bike for that out the door figure. The line items in the invoice make no difference. If they want to charge you $1 for the bike and $18,999 in fees and prep, what does it matter if you believe that $19K is a fair out the door cost?
This was my approach with the last purchase/trade I made. I decided in advance how much I would pay. I thought it was aggressive but fair. I shopped it around several local dealers. First one declined. The closest the 2nd dealer would get was $2500 above my proposal. The third dealer agreed and that's exactly the size of the check I wrote. Never mind that they had to get the bike from 3 states over (2020 bikes had just come out and Scorched Orange RGL with RDRS was difficult to find). The invoice had prep fees and such in it but they stuck to their end of the bargain, and a deal was struck.

It is all about "out the door". set the price you are willing to pay ( never the payment amount, don't even discuss financing til you get an agreed price!)
If they give you crap,or twist your arm GET UP AND WALK OUT, they are not your friends, they are not family, they are trying to get as much of your money as they can.
