I'm trying to adjust the throttle freeplay on my 01 road king. The little black throttle lock screw beside the grip, I understand needs to be backed out before adjusting. After I'm done adjusting do I turn it counter clockwise and tighten it or?
Its not a cruise control although it can be used as such. Its main purpose is for warming up the bike. And should be just loose enough not to add any drag on the throttle grip.
That is NOT for free play or throttle adjustment.
All that friction screw does is...........add friction.
You want it to still allow roll back of throttle.
Keep it loose and then if needed give it a turn to hold.
Right to tighten ..left to loosen
I used to set my lock screw to have enough drag on the throttle sleeve to counteract the pull of the return springs to lessen fatigue on long rides. I could still turn the throttle but it would stay where I left it, or slowly close if I took my hand off.
My new Heritage has real cruise control but I sometimes miss the simplicity of the old fashioned throttle lock.
