Hi there folks,
Need help with VINERR and ECM no response. BCM, ABS yes errors.
2017 Dyna low Rider S. Changed the exhaust and installed Power Vision(PV) Custom tune myself that was given to me by Dynojet. Handlebars were replaced in April 2021 by dealership but me being lazy did not reinstall the custom tune otherwise I would have found way earlier if this VINERR or P0120(TPS) errors were anyway associated with changing handlebar components which I doubt but not an expert. August 2021 rear tire was removed at home, tire replaced by shop. Battery was disconnected not to trigger any ABS issues due to accidental power up. Custom tune again not installed(being lazy). Bike ran fine for 2 weeks. 3 hole Oil change completed this month and custom tune installed right after. On power up VINERR showed up along with engine check light. When run switch turned ON Fuel pump primes perfectly and when start button pressed, engine would try to start but wont start. Battery was showing 12.4V after charging and would drop to 10.7 when start button pressed to start the engine. It would never fire up the engine due to error codes. Battery was anyways over 2 years old. New battery installed. Same VINERR and check engine light appeared. In diagnostic mode error codes ECM, BCM, Speedo and ABS was Yes. Error codes were P0120, P0220, P2135, U0156 etc. At some point I was able to reset ABS and Speedo but ECM wont clear. I also used power vision to clear the errors. I was able to clear the codes but would appear right up as both history and current. I spent all day yesterday trying to research these codes but didnt find anything info that would relate to the issue I have. Most of the fixes posted for P0120 errors are on older models that have TPS. I reinstalled the custom tune I had twice to see if that would resolve the issue. During that it would cycle the power off and then back on by itself but PV wont ask for switching the power off for 10 seconds. Fuel pump primed perfectly fine and rear and front lights turn on like usual. My last option left was to revert back to original tune that the bike originally came with, before power vision custom tune was installed. I did that. Now I am still getting VINERR, ECM no response, BCM, Speedo and ABS errors as Yes. PV is not communicating with ECM anymore No VIN Locks are Available. It says it is not married to this bike. I am thinking I should call Dynojet to atleast get this PV unlocked with password and get this to work. Next step after is to call the Dealership see if ECM need to be reset or replaced.
Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.
Raj
So after the last tune the bike will no longer start? Or it runs now with original tune but has check engine light and stored codes?
Also it would help to break that down into paragraphs...more people would read it all the way through. Plus there is a Dyna section if you don't get many responses here.
The fact that your bike ran fine at one time is a good indicator that things "should" be ok. Anytime I ran across the VINERR code on friends bikes was always due to loose battery connections. I understand that you have had different batteries installed but remember battery cables have 2 ends. Check all battery cables and grounds to make sure they are tight and not corroded. A loose connection may pass enough current for certain functions but the starter draws big amps at startup. The ECM and BCM are very sensitive to voltage. It's no guarantee of course but my investigation would start with verifying good clean tight connections for all components. Remember these bikes vibrate heavily and you did say it ran correctly at one time. Start looking there first before replacing expensive parts. Most places will not take returns on electrical items should you misdiagnose something. Good luck!
What's up Pals. First off I like to apologize if this write was little confusing or not put together well. It was just the frustration pouring out after several hours of work without success. Thank you all for the responses I got.
Flamed XR after the last custom tune was installed it won't start. All that failed then I installed Original tune and now I am left with bike won't start and on top PV won't would communicate with ECM along with all those error codes.
Wide Glider I will most definitely check the other ends of battery cables just to make sure they not loose. Noted.
Today;s Update is Dynojet asked me to send DiasgosticHistory.txt file so they can help troubleshoot. They have seen this happen before and different bikes have different symptoms. Looks like they suspect it might be my after-market parts I installed. They have a harness that would bypass all that upgrades and would let PV communicate with ECM if needed. Most definitely they gave me hope and would help resolve this issue. I don't need to go to the dealer atleast not for now. Really awesome guy Scott I talked to at Dynojet. It might take some time but there is light down the tunnel. Keep ya'll posted.
Have you tried removing the tuner completely? Exhaust change by itself won't affect much by itself...did you change the intake to a higher flowing air filter?
Exhaust only was changed back in 2017. Intake stayed the same. Most recent upgrades in last 1 year were custom dynamics license plate relocation, Rogue Riders LED turn signals with 11" handlebars being the last. Tuner is always off the bike. I only connect it to install the custom tune if allegedly battery was disconnected for some work/repairs.

Have you found out an issue I legit just put the PV on my bike today and got the same Damn issue a VINERR on my speedo.
So stupid Im pissed after houser of messing around PV cant load ecu data most friends have said its because of it being a 2021. I just want to know if there is a fox or if I have to buy a whole new ECM(which I dont want to ****inf do).
any help is great man this thing has been nothing bud a problem for my bike cuz it wont even load the original tune so I can use the bike bike wont even start just goes into accessory mode and thats it.
Lol. I hear your frustration. I called Dynojet and they thought if I buy their bypass harness for 165 bucks it might resolve the issue. That didnt work so I called the dealer. They asked me of any changes I did which was none. Their diagnostic appointment was available a month later. I had to tow the bike to the dealer. Their diagnostics found nothing wrong with ECM and it just needed a reflash to oem tune. It cost me an hour labor which was 165 bucks but most definitely cheaper then replacing ecm which runs $350 plus labor. Since that its been raining here in Bay Area and working long hours so bike is waiting to be taken out. Hate cleaning after every trip it rains. Like it keep it sparkling clean. My next project is to change the intake exhaust and do a dyno run so I am little hesitant in installing the tune again although I got new battery. Let me know if this would fix the issue. I did ride the bike several times already it doing ok just tiny bit lean. Good luck.
