Default axel diameters...

I came here looking for the axel diameters what I got from posts 11 years ago was so wrong and misleading... HD used 3/4" .75" up until 2000 then went to a 1" with the sealed bearings then in 2008 went to a 25mm axel diameter... now I believe you cannot use a 3/4" tapered bearing wheel with a 1" axel but the sealed bearings both have the same OD the ID is different so a 2001 axel will be ok with a later model wheel... now My expertise ends at he 2010 models. I believe that's when HD R&D went woke and tried to use every new technology and left what got them here behind...JMHO

The sealed wheel bearings come in different thicknesses as well.

01 had 3/4" axles. I converted mine to 1" and it wasn't cheap. I am talking about the rear axle which required replacing the swing arm. And Izzo, I let the misspell slide. LOL

Just a note. They are axles, not axels.

To further confuse the thread, my 2000 FLT had a 1' axle in the front but ran a 3/4" axle in the rear. Both sealed bearings. (Does that help? )

My 2000 Heritage has sealed bearings in front and tapered bearings in the rear. Found this on first tire change. It came from dealer with aftermarket wheels so I guess they used what they had. Lol

oh and I believe they are both 1” axles
