Had a compensator on my evo Heritage come loose and tear the rotor up for no reason. Leaking oil filter adapter on my 12 Streetglide. Seen many bikes with failed lifters. Friend of mine had a new Streetglide that made noise from the start and it turned out to be a bad wrist pin bushing. Another friend had his wrist pin keeper come loose and the pin moved and cut a deep grove in the cylinder. A friends twin cam Road King lost a lifter on the way to Sturgis and it chewed the entire engine up before he got it stopped. Another buddy came over with his brand new twin cam Fat Boy and it was leaking oil though the casting on the front head. Lots of failures out there and there shouldn't be. These are only some issues off the top of my head, there are many more.

I keep my fingers crossed every time i have bought a new Harley, but sometimes that is not enough. Come to think of it , my 56 an and 79 shovel were the beat bikes i ever owned or sure seemed like it back then.
My wheel bearing failure was at 2400 miles , not 24,000.

i think it's pretty obvious that the bolt was not 'pounded on', nor was it used. if it were beat on, it would be bent on the outside of the curve, not the inside, and you can see that the threads are all very clean. it looks to me like it was caught in some form of machinery during manufacture (sorter perhaps?) and slipped through their qc process.

you may say that qc is a thing of the past, but i remember in the past getting a whole lot more bum hardware than i do now. screws with heads that no screwdriver could possibly fit, nails with no point, or bad heads, etc.

i hardly think that getting one bad screw is representative of a system wide endemic. however, the hole alignment issue is another story. that is quite unfortunate for the price you had to pay for those cases.
