No helmet here.....but if I had to wear a full face in the heat,,,I think I'd mod it and put in some air grabber scoops on it.....

Have to agree with StrGlide on this one.

According to my memory of all I have read...Hurt Report and more recent statistics published, the Interstate is the safest route to travel.....least accidents per mile/per rider/per bike type etc.

Intersections have it hands down.....with the impactee making a turn across the path of the Motorcycle as the NUMBER ONE event.

If you are playing the odds....avoid the intersections and ride the Interstate....kinda dull though.

I don't remember the exact statistics from the Hurt Report, and I know other sources I have read back it up, but your chin takes it more often than not......makes sense with most accidents being at intersections.

With all that being said.........make yourself seen as best you can, ride smart and enjoy your trip.

Check out the Nolan full face. The chin bar and face shield flip up so that you can have the ventilation of a 3/4 when riding around town and the benefit of a full face when chin bar and face shield are down. I have one and love it.

are you talking about this model?
Yep, that's the one. It's a little improved compared to mine as my model is a few years old.

I do have to add that here in Az it can get "real hot" in the summer and I cheat a little and wear a Shoei 1/2 helmet around town. I do feel more comfortable in the Nolan.

I wore a HD 1/2 helmet for a while but got a smaller Fulmer 1/2 , and wear a 3/4 HJC with shield for winter-all of them are black. Took a trip to see some old friends at my old stomping grounds. First thing my old friend (riding over 35 years) says is " you need to get a white helmet or your're gonna bake your brain". Makes sense and I've been looking.

+1 here on the "flip-ups" I wear one (thou I know they are no better than the "one piece fulls" in terms of protection). They are comfortable and in hot days/slow traffic you can always flip it up. Just make sure you pick one of the newer models, the one in which you need just two fingers (one hand) to release the mechanism, yes, as stupid asit may sound, the previous models needed both hands pressing buttons one on each side.

Ride safe Karen,

Mimo.

I've had two accidents where the full face saved my neck and life. I ride in Atl. and the full face is not that bad. I had rather have the protection than worry about the heat.

Just bought the Nolan 100e. Nice modular style helmet. Went to a yard sale this morning because MC helmets were being sold. He had threehelmets and one was a blackX9 Shoei Snell/Dot approved.Helmetwas my size and had beenworn a few times andhad never beendropped or damaged. Looked like new with velvet bag. We haggled for a few minutes and he finally let itgo for $50.00. I hope I made a decent deal, Ibelieve it is an older helmet model. It is a lighter than the 100e.

hi

after getting used to the open face helmets i find it uncomfortable riding with a full face, open face give you way better visibility...u dont have to turn your head as much.

cheers

I have a white 1/2 helmet for the summer time, my black one otherwise. I have no qualms about my unprotected chin, only bouncing the noggin off the pavement. Will never, ever wear a full face. My peripheral vision is better w/the half, and I stay cooler.
