Just bought the Nolan 100e. Nice modular style helmet. Went to a yard sale this morning because MC helmets were being sold. He had threehelmets and one was a blackX9 Shoei Snell/Dot approved.Helmetwas my size and had beenworn a few times andhad never beendropped or damaged. Looked like new with velvet bag. We haggled for a few minutes and he finally let itgo for $50.00. I hope I made a decent deal, Ibelieve it is an older helmet model. It is a lighter than the 100e.
Yep, I sure did buy a used Shoei helmet at a yard sale. I have also bought a used chrome luggage rack and Windvestwindshield off of Ebay for half the price of retail. If you read my post you would have known that the helmet was used very little and had never been dropped or scratched. Basically the helmet is brand new, Dot and Snell approved and a retail price of over $400, and for just a measly $50 it is all mine. It is just not any helmet, it, is up there with the best helmets made. Most of the helmets in the bike shops are used if you want to get right down to it. How many people try on the helmets at a Harley shop or bike shop everyday and then end up buying it if it is the only one they have intheir size I also bought my 2004 low mileage Deuce used but that doesn't make it unsafe. Give me a break, Jeez.
For me it's the shortest d.o.t. available. Lately I,m looking at a good quality novelty. I've been known to get heat stroke. Can't imageine getting the dizzys on a bike on the standstill freeway.
Very interesting stats...Definately makes you think twice about the contributing factors to crashes and how adding multiple factors together basically make the odds to high... I think it's interesting that if you eliminate the booze, speeding and lack of helmet use, that quite significantly reduces the figures for fatality accidents.
I ride the interstate 135 miles roundtrip everyday and wear my 1/2 helmet if it's warm. As it starts to get colder I switch to the 3/4 and then full. I also wear the 3/4 of full if it's raining.
I have hadone of these Simpson Street bandits for a few years now (I have been in Simpson stuff for a long long time), and during the Summer months I will wear it on long trips only.....but in the Fall and beyond.....its the first one I grab. with all the vent holes plenty of fresh air can get in when its hot out....or you can just close the vents when its colder. My experience with Simpson products has been outstanding......they make the best of the best as far as I am concerned!

Yes, I thought the stats were interesting too about minimizing your risks and therefore chances of a crash. I wound up riding in just a half helmet and thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was very hot the latter part of the ride, but with the windshield, didn't catch any road debris in the face and was comfortable. Rode in my mesh jacket during the morning but even ditched that once the temps climbed back up into the high 90's. One of the guys stored it for me in his hard case, but I had to put it back on when we got close to home when we parted company, and must say I just wilted in the heat and humidity putting that on over my tank top. It was bearable, but only just.
