Didn't the dealer suggest that you buy Loctite by the gallon when you bought your Harley? Just kidding. Since I'm old and retired I spend way too much time tinkering with the bikes. Put them up on the jacks, sit on my mechanics roller chair, put the Peoples Court on the TV and tinker. Oh the good retired life.

I've got one to check when I get home today. My left muffler has slid back about 3/4-1" farther than the right. I'm guessing the clamp is loose.........
It's not just the clamp....if only one pipe moved then it's the bolts underneath that hold it on to the bracket that goes between the mufflers (at least on DYNA's...)

Thud this is good to point out to people. Some do not kow this info. Very important. I look my bike over everytime I was it. I have told many wash your bike yourself and when doing so look it over real well.

ORIGINAL: ThudMeister

When you check over the bike and you turn a nut or bolt, you have reduced the affectiveness of the loctite, assuming there is loctite on it to begin with. So, if you can turn it, remove it and put loctite on it. BLUE loctite for aluminum, RED loctite for other places. Do not use RED loctite on aluminum. Do not use RED loctite on nuts or bolts that are frequently removed. You can use nyloc nuts on areas that do not get hot.

Experts, correct me where I am wrong here.

I lost a bolt recently. So now I pose the question, does anyone have a list of bolts that they check often after rides, etc to make sure this doesn't happen periodically?
Is it fair to say "all of them", or generally speaking is there a select few "target areas" to pay special attention to - sorry - not to open my mouth and prove myself an idiot, I just do not know.

I pay special attention to the breather bolts located behind the air cleaner. Lost one of those once and ended up wearing some oil on my right leg. Not to mention the bike ran like crap. [:@]
Also lost a shifter peg once. I now carry spares of both.

I lost one of the bolts that hold the left turn signal housing together. I have also lost a muffler bolt before also.

Where's the fun it that?? That's why I built a custom from frame up. I don't have enough headaches with my daughters 31 ford or my 63 Mini Cooper, I need something to do all the time, the boob tube just doesn't do it for me except Paul Sr yelling at Paul Jr on the Discovery Channel.
